“I’m the asshole?” I exclaimed, shaking her off and twirling around to face her. “Me?”

She crossed her arms over her chest, furrowing her brows in an angry expression, yet all I could smell was that pretty little cunt salivating. She wanted me to fight over her, didn’t she? Did this turn her on that much?

“Yes, you,” she said. “Who else would I be talking to?!”

“She wants us,” my wolf murmured in my head. “Take her now.”

I gritted my teeth, my canines aching to sink into her bare neck. My gaze dropped down to it for the briefest moment, a moment so quick that Cade wouldn’t even notice, and then I balled my hands into fists.

She’d look so pretty with my mark all over her neck.

I wouldn’t be able to just mark her in one place. No, I’d claim her. Everywhere.

“Claim her now,” my wolf said. “We can smell how much she needs us.”

“Stop it,” I growled back, talons cutting through my palms and drawing blood.

“If we don’t claim her, Cade will.”

A ferocious snarl left my mouth, silencing Ember, who had continued on and on about how I was an alphahole. She stared at me through wide eyes, the scent from her cunt becoming even stronger.

Cade wasn’t going to mark her. He wouldn’t dare.

“Alpha Davix—I mean, Davix,” Dr. Yoder said, eyes wide and standing at the door, then he walked into the room.

Ember peered at me one last time, then returned to the bed. “I know about wolves.”

Dr. Yoder looked at Cade, then at me, then cleared his throat. “Okay, then, um …” After a moment of silence, where he peered around the room, still confused, he returned his attention to me. “I didn’t expect you to be here so soon.”

“I expected you to call me with information yesterday,” Davix said.

“I still need more time. The outcome isn’t what we predicted.”

“Information about what?” Ember asked.

“None of your business,” I growled.

The more she got involved, the harder this all became. Yoder was supposed to be researching ways to break this goddamn fucking curse on my pack, and the closer Ember pushed me, the harder it was for me to stay in control.

And if I didn’t stay in control, I’d mark her. And if I marked her, then not only would the curse continue, but Ember would die in the next three years, no matter what. And if she died in a few years, I’d fucking kill myself.

My eyes widened at the mere thought. What the fuck was that?

“Dr. Yoder is here to check up on Ember, not for your bullshit, Davix,” Cade growled.

I cut my glare to him and flared my nostrils. I had to make a fucking choice—I marked her now and she would die in three years, or that asshole would mark her during the full moon, when she went into heat for not mating with me.

“What’s Ember here for?” I asked Yoder in my alpha tone.

“She’s here for a checkup,” Cade snarled, stepping forward.

I shoved him back. “I didn’t ask you.”

“You didn’t fucking have to,” Cade said. “Get the fuck out of here.”

“This is my part of the forest, pup. Not yours. You moved onto my territory.”

“This hospital does not belong to you. It’s under Braveclaw control.”
