Angel crouched in front of him. “You're going to talk.”
“Why would I do that?” he asked.
“Because the alternative is Ghost.” Behind her, Ghost chuckled. Razor stared at her, and Angel smiled. “And he's been looking for an excuse to shoot you all night.”
“Several, actually,” Ghost said.
“See?” Razor looked past her, and Ghost smiled. Razor's expression tightened, and Angel stood. “Bishop.”
“Yes?” he asked.
“Where are the copies?” she asked.
“What?” he breathed.
“You said there were copies of the ledger.”
He nodded. “There is one.”
“Where is it?” she asked.
“It’s safe,” he assured.
“Good.” She held the original toward him. “Then this goes somewhere nobody can make disappear.”
Bishop took it. “I know someone.”
“No.” He stopped. Angel shook her head. “No more secret contacts. No more hidden deals. No more deciding what's best for me.”
Bishop nodded. “Okay.”
“We do it together,” she ordered.
“Sounds like a plan,” Bishop said.
Monster spoke from behind her. “And preferably after we get the fuck out of this pumpkin barn.” Angel looked around the barn. For the first time, she realized how ridiculous the place truly was with its Jack-o'-lanterns, weapons, bikers, and blood. One wounded former Enforcer, a corrupt MC president tied to a post, her biological father holding a twenty-five-year-old criminal ledger, and two men standing beside her who had somehow become the safest thing in her life. Angel started laughing.
Ghost stared at her. “You okay?”
“Not even a little,” she admitted.
Jackhammer smiled. “Good. I'd be worried if you were.”
She looked at them—both of them. “I thought you wouldn't come.”
Ghost's face hardened. “Then you're not as smart as I thought you were.”
“Ghost,” she chided.
“You honestly thought we'd let somebody take you out of our clubhouse and just—what? Go to bed?” he asked.
“No,” she breathed.
“Good,” he said.
Jackhammer stepped closer. “You scared the shit out of us.”
“I was scared too,” she admitted. His expression softened, and Angel swallowed. “I thought something might happen to you because of me.”
