“I’m just laying out all the fact.” No point hiding my intention or future action.
“Fine. Let me think about this a little more, and we can discuss some more but, in the meantime, nothing changes in terms of her protection.” He ask confirming
“Absolutely not.” I affirm
“Sure. Will you be staying for dinner?” I can’t believe this. I’m willingly asking Jonah Lloyd to have dinner in my house, but then again, a former Ms. Lloyd sleeps in my arms every night.
“No, I’m heading back home. I’d planned to take Lexi with me, but guess I’m returning home alone.”
“I won’t stop or delay you,” I state, smirking. We both rise.
“You are so fucking arrogant,” he says.
“So are you,” I reply with a grin.
We both get up and he pauses and turns a stern face to me. “You do know that if she calls me tomorrow to come and get her, I will be here with a cavalry, no questions asked.”
I chuckle. “I know.” I retort, matching his stern look. “I also know I’ll never put Jola in a situation where she plans to leave me.”
“Good, because she’ll always be my baby sister, no matter what or who she marries,” he confirms.
“Yes, I fucking heard you, Lloyd. Your sister is my wife.” I state
“Glad we have a clear understanding.”
I nod and open the door to head back out to the living room. Jola is on her feet when she sees us. I wink at her and she smiles.
“You are so gone,” Jonah whispers.
“I know and I don’t mind,” I respond in a sassy tone. He shakes his head at me.
“Sprinkles, I must head back home. I leave you in the safe arms of your husband. He’ll relay our conversation to you,” Jonah says. She goes to hug him tight. I watch them and realize that I’m glad all he asked for was me begging him. “Our agreement still stands, you call me any time, and I’ll come and get you, no questions asked,” he whispers to her and I hear him.
“I know,” she whispers back. He pulls from the hug and cups her face, a kiss on her forehead.
“Love you, Sprinkles.”
“Love you too, big bro.” He chuckles but I can tell leaving her isn’t easy for him. “Talk at our usual time,” he says to her.
“I won’t miss it.” She smiles. She steps back from him, and he puts his hand out for handshake and I take it.
“Thank you,” I say to him. He nods and leaves.
“I’m going to miss him,” she says.
I pull her close to me. “I know.” I didn’t realize how close until I saw them together.
“I’m glad he said yes,” I say.
“Me too,” says Ice. I’d forgotten he’s still here.
“Out!” I say to him.
“Good night, Lexi,” he says.
“Night, Ice,” she hollers after him.
“What do you have to tell me?” she asks.
