“Later, right now I get to sink deep into my wife.”

She smiles and I immediately lift her off the ground and over my shoulder. She’s laughing.

I drop her on the bed and get on top of her, keeping my eyes on her as her laughter stops.

“What’s wrong?” she asks.

“I love you, Jola, and I need you to promise me that you and I will discuss any issues or concerns first before you ever call Jonah to come and get you.”

She stares at me.

“What did my brother say to you?” She tries to push up and I don’t let her.

“He said, if you ever call him to come and get you, that he’ll send the cavalry, no questions asked, and I believe him.” She smiles and holds my face, kissing me gently.

“I promise to talk to you first before I call Jonah.” She quietly says with a grin, just as I sharply exhaled.

“Are you okay?”

“Yes, I am,” I say before kissing my wife.

Chapter seventy-six

Lexi/ Jola

Life with Bruce is going great and blissful. I believe we are meant to be. Mr. Darcy and I met at the right time, and he’s the best person to protect me. Jonah and I have talked about me taking my place on the board, but a part of me feels I need to end the chapter of someone chasing me. I know Bruce is actively looking into it, though he’s not sharing the information or findings with me. He has promised to inform me once he has something concrete. Right now, they are just checking every angle.

He has made me promise to never deviate from my protection plan and always be vigilant.

Now, I happily flash my ring, now that my brother has approved of us. I’ve gone out with Dele, Anne, and MAK a few times. No clubs, Bruce is not approving that any time soon.

We’ve all had dinner together, which was fun. Bruce says I cast a spell on him the first time we met, and I laugh because I’m happy to have cast a good spell. I chuckle every time the thought crosses my mind.

Vivian wasn’t too happy to find out that I’m married to Bruce, and she blatantly told me she’s jealous. I had said to her, “Don’t let the smile fool you,” I warned. “I will fight dirty for my husband.”

Today, Ice and I decided to make a pit stop at his office. He said he wanted to talk to one of the guys, and I don’t mind seeing Mr. Darcy. We ride up to his office.

Grayson cheerfully lets me in. I find Bruce on the sofa, putting the puzzle pieces together. He smiles when he sees me.

“Hello, sprinkles. This is a pleasant surprise,” he says, getting to his feet and pulling me into his arms.

“Yes. Ice wanted to see one of the guys, and I don’t mind seeing Mr. Darcy,” I say before his mouth is on mine, kissing me like the last time we saw each other was a decade ago. I break from the kiss, and he still holds me close, kissing my temple.

“Your husband is pleasantly surprised and happy to see you,” he states matter-of-factly, and I grin at him. I chuckle because his hand is on my ass. Before I can say another word, there’s a knock on the door, and Grayson comes in.

“Ms. Debbie is here to see you, boss.” My frown is immediate. I don’t like that woman. She wants my husband, and she isn’t hiding it. I want to tell Bruce to fire her, but she’s business, and I can’t mess with that.

“Send her in,” Bruce replies. Grayson leaves.

“Time for me to…” My words cut off as Ms. Debbie sashays into his office, purring like a cat in heat.

“Hi, Bruce,” she gasps when she sees me in Bruce’s arms. “Oh, I didn’t know you had a guest.” I hear the annoyance in her voice.

“This is my wife, Lexi,” he says, and I swear her jaw hits the floor before she remembers to pick it up.

“I didn’t know you got married. You always gave the impression of a forever bachelor,” she splutters.

“Not anymore,” he answers, a grin spreading across his face.
