It had been two days since Jetty found the other vampires and we were eagerly waiting for them to return here. I wondered how they felt returning to their prison, the one place they had been willing to do anything to escape. Now they were coming here to help us out and I was glad for it.
We had asked Jetty about spying, and he had left us to look for anything. It was not easy, I assumed, since they no longer held any magical signature, but we had faith in the brownie and his spying skills.
“Can they enter through the ward?” Colin asked, standing next to me by the window.
“Um, that I do not know,” I admitted. “Too bad Sienna and Nicco have yet to return.”
“They’ve been gone for three days,” Colin chuckled. “We can ask Jetty.”
“When he returns,” I agreed.
“Or you could just watch and wait,” Jacob suggested. “A car is coming up in the distance so they already made it through the gate.”
We flew into motion, joining Harland who was already downstairs and waiting. “They got through?” I asked, even as I saw the car coming into view.
“Why should they not?” Harland questioned.
“The ward,” I grunted, not in the mood to repeat the whole thing.
The car stopped and then it was four hundred years ago. James exited the car, his face the same as last time we saw him, a wide smile on his face.
“Fuck,” he said, staring at the mansion. “I never thought I would be back here.”
I grinned, running to our old friend, engulfing him in a hug. Harland and Jacob joined us.
“Oh, we’re hugging?” George asked, joining us next. He had changed a little, no longer wearing a beard.
“Colin?” Sophie asked, her eyes teary.
“Aunt Sophie?” He was staring with wide eyes at the woman who appeared to be in her early twenties.
“I can’t believe Loreaine made such a handsome man!” Sophie gushed. “Strong, too!”
“Okay, this is so weird,” Colin whispered, making all of us laugh.
Another car drove up and soon we were reunited with all six vampires and their sacrifices.
“We should’ve thought this through,” Colin said, taking out the food from the fridge. “Nicco would’ve loved to cook for everyone.”
“We can handle some food,” I said, waving it off.
Sophie snorted. “Yeah, I’ve learned not to trust vampires in a kitchen.”
Colin grinned at her. “Plus, Nicco’s cooking is amazing.”
Sophie groaned. “Don’t remind me! I miss it every day!”
Adam grabbed Sophie around her waist. “I thought you were happy with all the fabulous restaurants I took you to?”
She giggled. “I will never tire of those.”
“Don’t people look twice at Adam not eating?” Colin asked.
Sophie shook her head. “He orders wine and a small meal that I end up eating as well. We never got any questions about it either. He just acts like he’s eating and that’s it. Sometimes we don’t even bother and he will just not eat. What would they do? Refuse us?”
Colin shrugged. “I might just be overthinking things.”
“We did as well,” Adam assured him. “Where would we live? How would we earn money? All of that.”
