“Remember the moonlight date?” Alexander sighed, his tone full of reminiscing.

“Moonlight date?” Colin asked, sounding intrigued.

It was one of my fondest memories while in the mansion. “Jacob planned a date night for the three of us,” I began, remembering every detail. “We had all just gotten together and decided we would be happy as three of us. Jacob surprised us one evening with lots of blankets and pillows outside.”

Alexander took over, tone wistful,” It was a starry night, not one cloud in the sky. Jacob had us laying down and talking about our dreams for the future.”

“Then, after we were done stargazing,” I continued. “Jacob had four of the other vampires come out, each with an instrument. They played for us as we danced under the moonlight.”

Colin’s eyes were glistening as we reminisced the night that started it all for us.

“And then the others left and we made love outside until the sun started to rise,” Jacob finished, his eyes were shining and his smile was soft. “We need to do that again.”

“With Colin,” I agreed.

Colin shook his head. “You don’t have to replicate the date just to share it with me as well. I don’t mind you having those wonderful memories of your time together before me. I also don’t want you to feel like I need to experience the same. Whatever happens from now on, will be with the four of us. That’s how I want things to be.”

He was just so understanding, our human, even if we could all feel his pang of hurt as we told the story. His heart felt hurt over not having been there, but his mind knew we had a past without him. It was a weird situation, but I had been there myself once.

“When I started courting Jacob,” I began, simply because Colin needed to hear this. “I kept seeing him and Alexander everywhere I looked. When Jacob took me out to the garden at night, I recalled having seen him do the very same with Alex. It was hard for me in the beginning, and I could not help comparing myself to his former lover. I kept thinking that every kiss was not new for Jacob, as it was for me. I knew my touch was not foreign to his body, but his touch was that for me. It was new and exciting. When Alexander joined us and became my lover as well, I learned how wrong and silly I had been. Because each touch to Alexander’s skin was a new and wonderful experience to me, as was his touch on me.”

Jacob nodded. “Even though we share so many years of experiences together, it does not take away what we experience with you. For us each new day we start as something new, and I cannot wait to experience everything with all of my men.”

“Thank you,” Colin whispered, just as we reached the end of the trail, coming right around to the start of the park. “I didn’t know I needed to hear that.”

“We have lived for a very long time,” Alexander said, smiling knowingly at us. “But it has been filled with wonderful memories, some bad as well. And trust me, I have made many mistakes.”

“We know,” Jacob smiled, showing he had forgiven him.

“But,” Alexander continued, also smiling. “I know that now that we are all free and can do whatever we want, you Colin, is who we want. I already chose Jacob and Harland for myself. I thought for so long that our time together was limited. You changed that when we chose one another.”

Colin was about to say something back, a big smile on his face, when I heard it. I reacted, grabbing Colin out of the way just as a gunshot rang out, the bullet flying right past where Colin had been. There were no humans around, so we ran to the car as fast as we could, me with Colin safely in my arms.

“What happened?!” Colin demanded from my arms. “And how are you this strong?!”

“You need to drive away fast!” I tried to open the car door but it was stuck.

“Hold on!” Colin snapped, then we heard a beeping sound as the lights flickered. I could now open the door. Colin was seated behind the wheel and we got onto our seats in seconds.

“Should we deal with them, or leave?” Jacob asked just as Colin turned the car on.

“We leave!” Alexander and I said in unison.

Colin drove away from the park, tires screeching as we got into the bigger road, the other cars honking at us.

“You are shaking!” I said, rubbing my arms along Colin’s arms. I was sitting right behind him, trying to do my best to calm my human.

“I am pretty sure someone just tried to shoot me!” He snapped. “I apologize if my shaking is disturbing you!”

“Hey,” Jacob cooed. “We mean nothing by it, my love. Just focus on getting us home where we are safe, then we will talk this through.”

Colin swallowed, then nodded. “Okay.”

Chapter Thirty-One

Colin

You should never ignore your gut, but I had. It was a stupid mistake, but how could I have kept my vampires inside when they’d longed to leave this property for eight centuries? Still, it had almost cost me my life, and I was wondering just how much I truly loved these men. Until this day I hadn’t thought I would risk my own life for theirs, but I had done that today.
