“There you are!” Sienna exclaimed. It looked as though she’d been pacing inside the foyer for some time.
“We were just out,” Jacob replied, grinning. They seemed less affected about the fact I’d almost died. I tried not to let it bother me.
“Yeah, almost died. Fun times,” I muttered. So much for not letting it bother me.
Sienna sighed loudly, muttering, “So dramatic,” under her breath.
“What do you need, Sienna,” I asked, already done with her, and everything else today too it seemed.
“I am going on a vacation!” she declared loudly. “I feel like I have earned it.”
“You have,” Alexander agreed.
Sienna faltered. “You agree?”
I frowned at that. “You don’t?”
“I do!” she objected. “I just had a whole speech prepared.”
“You know you aren’t bound here anymore, correct?” I asked. Then wondered if she could leave or if it was only Jetty who’d been released.
She huffed. “You act like I am the clueless one here, young human.” Before I could object, or apologize, she continued. “I am simply telling you that I am leaving for a well-deserved vacation so you know my whereabouts. I will be gone for one whole week. Now I know that is a long time to be without me, but I hope you will persevere in my absence.”
“Only one week?” I asked, thinking she’d needed at least a month or two. Hell, I would’ve taken years off after eight hundred years of work.
She just blinked up at me.
“Do you want to keep serving the mansion?” Alexander asked, kneeling next to her. I suddenly felt very rude. Not once had I talked to her eye to eye.
Sienna nodded, looking only at Alexander. “I have spoken with Jetty and my husband. We are staying and serving master Colin.”
“Husband?!” I exclaimed.
“Nicco,” Jacob muttered, like I should’ve known this whole time.
“I had no idea!” I objected.
“They share a room,” Harland said, looking confused.
I threw both my hands up. “I have no idea where their room even is!”
Sienna huffed and then promptly turned around and scurried away. I doubted we would see her for the next week.
“Does this mean we will have to provide food for Colin?” Jacob asked, his emotions warring between excitement and trepidation. I felt right there with him. I was a tad excited to cook for myself for a week, but I feared they would want to cook for me.
I needed to divert their focus. “Can you even eat? Or is it strictly blood?”
They looked at me, then Alexander answered. “Only blood. We throw up everything else.”
I winced. “That couldn’t have been fun to experiment with.”
“It was not,” Harland agreed.
Alexander turned to follow Sienna’s direction. “I will ask Nicco if he is vacationing with his wife or not.”
I followed. “Surely they’ll leave together.”
He shrugged. “Brownies are different from us. They feel the most fulfilled while working. In fact, many never take a vacation.”
