“What the fuck do you mean Meadow quit this morning?” I asked with haste. My mind raced. I tried to replay everything that happened, but the only thoughts occupying my mind were the visions of her face and body as she took all my dick. There was no indication of her quitting last night when we’d left on such good terms, at least from my perspective.

“I don’t know what you did, but she quit. She rescinded the contract and sent all the money back too. I got the notification around eight this morning. What did you do?”

“I ain’t did a fuck thing . . .”

I ran my hands down my face as my heart thumped in my ear like a war drum. My stomach churned as bile burned the base of my throat. I swallowed as I processed his statement. She left without a word and sent the money back despite all the time we’d spent together. It made little sense. I thought we were headed in the right direction to forever together, but I guessed I was wrong. I guessed she didn’t feel the same way.

“I-I . . . Sed, I didn’t do nothing wrong. I don’t know what happened. She sent the money back for real?”

“Every cent.”

“Well, that will not work for me. Send her two million and tell the bank to block any transfers back from her account. I’m about to get dressed. Can you send me her address?”

“The agency is sending over a replacement nurse. She should arrive soon. I’ll be there to meet her at the gate.”

“No. I don’t want anybody but Meadow. Call the agency and tell them I’ll pay to fill the replacement’s gas tank, but anyone other than Meadow won’t see me.” I stood up.

I noticed an envelope near the bedroom door. In her beautiful cursive writing was my name.

Porter.

“Hold on, Sed. Let me call you right back.”

I hung up without waiting for his response. I opened the envelope and read the letter. Each stroke of the pen she used felt like a direct stab to my heart.

Porter,

Blame the hopeless romantic in me for using this method of communication, but I felt like a pen and paper would give us both the raw truth we deserve to move forward.

This may feel out of the blue for you, but for me, this is the only option. I have to cut contact with you because my heart, my soul, my mind, my life can’t handle everything that comes with being with you—not when we crossed the line I fought so hard to stay away from.

From the moment our paths aligned, you plagued my mind. You infiltrated my heart. I was okay with allowing thoughts of you to stay in the comfort of my brain while we focused on your recovery.

Then you came around and entered my most private part, my soul.

Last night was something magical. You touched my body in a way that pierced through every set of armor I had built around my heart. You touched my deepest parts. Your dick is dangerous because it makes me feel a high I’d probably spend the rest of my life searching for.

I fell in love with the man you are when we’re alone together, but I fear what our norm would look like when you’re reunited with your first love, football.

I admire all that you do. I admire all that you are.

However, I don’t know if we’re meant to be. I don’t know if what we feel is because we’re blinded by proximity or if this is God’s will.

I lost myself in you, and as a woman, that’s dangerous.

I have enjoyed the time we spent together. I appreciate the laughs, the memories, and the unforgettable moments.

I can’t wait to see you back on that field one day.

XO,

Dow

I folded the paper and slid it back into the envelope. I smiled at the letter because it gave me all the answers I needed. She wanted me, but a relationship with me scared her.

All I had to do was reassure her I was more than what the blogs portrayed me as. I was worth the chance.

Meadow, get ready, baby girl. The pressure I’m about to apply will be unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.
