“What? He’s in his thirties?”

“Yes. He’s thirty-six.”

“Damn. Well, fuck it. You can’t help who you like, right? If he’s a nice guy, it doesn’t matter.”

“Thanks, girl. Maybe you should come up here. Find a hot mountain man for yourself.”

Alana laughed loudly. “I don’t want none of that serious shit. I’m having fun. Now let me tell you about this guy, Eddie. Girl, he had the biggest dick I’ve ever seen, and it was a little curved.” She went on and on about Eddie and while I half listened, I couldn’t stop thinking about Hutch.

What was the harm in staying a few extra days? If the cabin wasn’t available, maybe I could find another place to rent or even stay with him…okay, I needed to slow it down. I needed to get through the day first.

“Hello? Earth to Rogue?”

“Shit, I’m sorry. I got lost in thought.”

“It’s okay, I get it. Don’t get too caught up that you forget about me though, okay? I will come up there and yank you back by your hair.”

I laughed. “Okay, okay. I’ll call you later tonight. Love you.”

“Love you back.”

I hung up and hurried into the shower. Over the next hour, I glammed myself up, keeping my look natural and light like usual, with some added sparkle.

At ten on the dot, Hutch arrived in his Caddy, looking as handsome as ever.

“Hi,” I said as I opened the front door and smiled.

“Hi,” Hutch echoed as his eyes traveled down my body. When they met mine again, he smiled playfully. He reached forward and rested his hands on my hips before pulling me in for a hug. I slipped my arms around his neck and rested my head on his chest, his heartbeat steady and sure.

“You look amazing.” He whispered in my ear, and shivers ran up and down my spine.

“Thank you,” I said as I leaned back and looked up at him. I wanted to kiss him, wanted him to kiss me, but I buried my face in his neck and inhaled his scent, a spicy pine mix.

My body exploded with fire, hot lava running through my veins. This man…this handsome man, fuck. I wanted him.

“You ready to go?” His deep voice rumbled, and I leaned back once more, nodding up at him.

Hutch smiled and took my hand in his. He led me to his Caddy, where he opened the side door for me. It was a bright, sunny day, a slight chill in the air, with oranges and yellow leaves on the trees and ground.

I carefully got inside, the leather smooth and restored, his handiwork on full display.

Hutch got behind the wheel and grinned. “She’s pretty, huh?”

“She’s gorgeous, Hutch. You redid the inside too, right?”

“Yep. All of her. She was in pretty rough shape. My dad did most of the leather work. He was much better at upholstery than me.”

“I love it. It’s almost too pretty to sit in.”

“Oh, I know. I put tarps down at first. But they kept blowing around and pissing me off.”

We both laughed.

“So, where are you taking me?”

“I thought we could stop for some breakfast and coffee at the local bakery. Drive through the mountain roads after. Park at the top, take some pictures. You know, the usual touristy crap. But honestly, you lucked out. This is the best time of year to see the mountains with the fall colors.”

“I know. I love fall. I’m glad I came. I almost didn’t.”
