I heard the alarm bells. The warnings. She was leaving. She wasn’t from around here.

But the thought of not seeing her again…

I focused on tomorrow and looked over at her, a hope stirring in my belly.

Rogue met my eyes and smiled.

Fuck, I’m such a goner.

“I’d really like that, Hutch.”

“Good. I’ll pick you up bright and early.”

“What’s bright and early? A girl needs her beauty sleep.”

I chuckled. Always showing how adorable she was. “How’s ten?”

“Perfect.”

“Will you be taking the Caddy?”

“What?” Her question caught me off guard.

Rogue grinned. “I like it. It’s sexy. And I’d like to go for a ride in it, watch you drive…you know.” Her eyes darkened as her rocking motion slowed. She leaned forward. “I know how hard you worked on it, and I want to appreciate it. With you.”

Fuck it. This woman had my heart. I knew it right then and there.

“How are you so God damn perfect?” I whispered as I too moved closer to her.

Silence fell between us as we stared at one another, lost in the moment. The same chance to kiss her again. Do I take it? Do I make her mine? What about when she leaves?

Could we figure all that shit out later?

Before I had a chance to decide, headlights pulled into the driveway, and my phone chimed.

My Uber arrived.

I looked over at the car pulling in and back at Rogue. “Have a good night, pretty lady. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Then I stood and walked to the car before I changed my mind and stayed.

CHAPTER FOUR

Rogue

“I don’t know what to do, Alana. I really like him.” I sighed before taking a sip of my coffee and stared at my phone, my best friend’s face smiling up at me from the picture I set as her profile. I called her this morning, in total chaos over Hutch. I couldn’t stop thinking about him last night. I barely slept. His face kept floating in front of my eyes, my heart pounding, my body shivering. I never liked someone, nor wanted someone as much as I wanted him. “I’ve met no one like him.” I filled her in on the night before, not leaving a single detail out.

“And I’ve never heard you talk like this about someone before. What the hell is in the mountain air up there?”

“Love potion number nine.”

We both laughed.

“There’s one other thing. He’s older than me.”

“Okay. That’s no big deal.”

“No, like a lot older. Over ten years.”
