"They were."

"But he insisted they were famous."

Ward smiled.

"What happened if someone told him they weren't?"

Storm grinned.

"He'd tell them they weren't hungry enough."

The three of us laughed.

For just a moment...

The bridge felt less like the command center of a yacht.

And more like the kitchen table of a family home.

An hour later...

The sun climbed higher.

The Pacific shimmered beneath it.

Storm made another slow sweep of the horizon with her binoculars.

She stopped.

Only for a second.

"What?"

She looked again.

Then lowered the binoculars.

"Probably nothing."

"What did you see?"

She hesitated.

"A fishing boat."

"That's normal, isn't it?"

"Out here..."

She frowned.

"A little farther offshore than most."

I turned toward the horizon.

"I don't see it."

"You wouldn't."
