Large enough that it almost blended into the horizon itself.

Hazel whispered,

"I see her."

Willow nodded.

"So do I."

Frank slowly lowered his binoculars.

"She's beautiful."

Nathan answered quietly.

"So was the snake in Eden."

No one smiled.

Ward lifted the long-range binoculars.

He adjusted the focus.

Then adjusted it again.

"What do you see?"

I asked.

He was silent.

Long enough that I looked toward him.

Finally...

He handed me the binoculars.

"You need to see this yourself."

I raised them.

The distant ship slowly sharpened into view.

White hull.

Blue stripe.

Nothing unusual.

No visible weapons.

No armed men.

No reason to fear her.

Until I reached the stern.
