“I will let it fly that you’re stealing my words, this once. Next time, please include your source. My brain works overtime to come up with these retorts.”

“I’ll be sure to add an, ‘And I quote Winnie,’ from now on.”

I’m the first one to break away from our prolonged exchange of eye contact.

“Another pink sunset,” I marvel. The sky is beautiful with mingling shades of blues and pinks.

“I guess the universe is giving us a sign.”

“About what?”

“That us being friends might just turn out to be a good idea.”

“Maybe. Or maybe it’s just about science.”

Levi smiles.

My arms. They hurt.”

I can’t see Levi’s face, but I can sense his roll of eyes.

“It’s only been a minute.” He sounds really unimpressed.

“A long ass minute. Feels like at least three,” I whine. He breathes out a chuckle.

“You’re dismissed.”

“Finally.” I step away, rolling my shoulders dramatically.

For most of the morning, we’ve been busy getting some wallpaper up in the living room area in Levi’s cottage. My task was to hold the wallpaper up against the wall, while Levi made sure it lined up perfectly before sticking it to the wall, and let’s just say, arm strength was not my strong suit.

I take in the floral patterns in shades of blues and greens, grinning.

“I love it. It goes perfectly with the tiles in the kitchen and the chairs.”

“It really does,” Levi agrees.

“Should we get the projector screen up next?”

“You’re the boss.”

“Okay, then. Let’s do it Handy Mandy.”

“Never heard that one before,” he declares confidently.

“Huh. Must be a big city girl thing,” I explain, tucking a rebel tendril of hair away behind my ear. It stays there all of a breath before doing whatever it pleases.

“If every girl in that big city is named Winnie and says things that make no sense most of the time, then yeah, sure.”

“Pretty sure you just described Heaven.”

This time, I see him roll his eyes, which makes me sparkle with self-satisfaction.

“Isn’t it a sweet treat to spend that much time with me?”

“Yeah. The kind that makes you sick to your stomach.”
