I open my mouth to ask more, but she waves her hand to stop me.
"I can tell you another time. I may have met him before, but I didn't fall in love with him until he became the QB, so is it really all that important?"
"It is!"
"In any case." She gives me a coy smile. "More important than that is how filming him for social media content helped me along in the journey."
"How is that more important?"
"Logan and I keep on bonding through those videos. I filmed one of him today. Well. I filmed him and the guys."
I take a big bite of my food to buy myself time. Evie is giving me a playful look, and I suspect where she's leading the conversation.
"Yeah?" I sip from my drink. "One of those videos where they compete for likes?"
Evie nods. "I can show you what I got for Bear, if you like."
I take another bite of my sandwich. The flavors take my attention away from the mix of anticipation and downright impishness speeding up my heart. Despite what we did this morning, I'm not supposed to be looking at Bear with any degree of lust. After getting off together in bed earlier today, a video can only amp up everything I've been dealing with. Too little, too much of a promise. Too many questions. But since my fizzy drink is doing nothing to quench my thirst at the moment…
"Sure," I say. "I'm curious."
She gives me her phone, and I tap on it to get it to play. Leon fills the screen. He's doing some sort of plank in the video, with one hand on the floor and arm fully extended, while the other hand pulls at an evidently heavy barbell. I'm not an expert, but it seems like a difficult position. He's keeping still, holding to the plank like it's the easiest thing in the world. It's clearly not. All his muscles pop, especially around his shoulders and arms, but even his ass looks engaged. Showcased by his shorts and tank top, highlighting his sleeve tattoos, and the way ink crawls down his wrists and up toward his jaw— everything looks amazing. His thick thighs. His thick neck. His thick… everything.
After this morning I suspect that, yeah. Thickeverything.
And, damn. His focused face shows the coordination and strength that this workout requires. Sweat sparkles on his forehead, while a single drop rides down his nose until it hangs from the tip. Like he's been at this for a while.
Is this how he would look when he's been fucking for hours? 'Cause yeah, he'd be the kind of man to want to do it for a long time—
"Mhh. Interesting," Evie says.
"Yeah?" I squeak. "What is?"
Holy shit. Now I'm imagining myself under him, this focused face directed at me, using those muscles to maneuver me—
"I'm guessing you like it?" Evie says. "Is the video wife-approved?"
Semi-unconsciously, I bring the cold can to my neck. I'm too young to be getting a hot flash but, hell. This is what I imagine they feel like.
I gulp and give Evie her phone back. "Yeah. Very nice. The video is going to kill it online."
I might keep an eye on social media only so I can study it again at my leisure.
"Very nice, huh?" She laughs. "It's my favorite PR project for sure, but your face looked like you found it more than nice."
"Why— what did my face look like?"
By instinct, I check what my parents are doing. They're busy talking to Nat and Ames, slightly removed from the conversation Evie and I are having. Good. Something tells me Evie is about to start some shenanigans and I don't want them listening in.
"Like you could eat him up," Evie says.
I stare out to the field and find Bear again. He's showing someone how to do a combo block of some sort. My heart flutters. All things considered, this is likely the result of the video as much as Evie's game. Of course it's rational in its own way.
My friend smiles. "Oh, and I haven't had a chance to tell you yet. That photobooth picture you took at the gala? Gorgeous. Very sexy. The junior PR associate who came up with the booth set up got a pat on the back for that.It gave the fans a new way to look at the party. Did you two plan to have his championship ring front and center on your thigh like that?"
A gust of wind drives by. Both Evie and I have long, brown hair, and locks go awry on the breeze. We both automatically leave the sandwich on our lap and deal with our rogue hair.
"Uhm… no," I say. "That was an accident."
