"Barely." My voice came gravelly out of my throat. "And only because I plan to make you scream."

"I won't push tonight but, just so you know— I can keep quiet."

"Good to know, but that's only another challenge I'll try to win."

"Promise?"

If I couldn't allow myself all I wanted to do to her, I could at least allow some transparency.

I let my smile show some of the hunger eating me inside. My smile stretched, wide and heated as I pulled her down for a kiss.

"You tell me what you think," I said, before I bit on her bottom lip and kissed her like we were alone in the house, and we could let our lips travel all over.

And we kissed and kissed, until it felt like we were the young people who might have snuck around the house, stealing a private moment outside of the parents' purview. Until she'd found a place on top of me, and she made me delirious with the undulation of her hips on my erection.

Until I had lost count, and I forgot there had been a time where kissing her had only been a dream.

Chapter 19

Vi

By far, the worstconsequence of this brilliant idea of mine to keep the relationship private, was that I couldn't come into work and stop in Jake's office for a kiss.

I went up the elevator that Monday morning with fun memories of making out with Jake in his bed. He'd insisted I go back to my own before I fell asleep… only to agree to accompany me back there. The idea had been a cutelet me tuck you in, and had ended in another bout of heated kissing.

We'd repeated it the second night, too. And had found moments alone in the boathouse, and in the pantry. Hot, for sure, and not enough.

I reached my destination floor and went out of the elevator car into the Sotomayor offices, but my feet didn't lead me to my own space. They took me to Jake, just in case.

His glass was opaque and his door closed. With a disappointed frown, I stopped by his assistant's desk.

"Hey, Ryan. Is Jake going to be busy for a long time?"

"Hi, Miss Vi." He checked his desk phone. "He was on a call but his line is free now. Do you want me to check if he's available?"

"Yes, please. And also please stop calling meMissVi, and reach out to Stephanie to book a couple of hours for the personal project Jake and I are working on."

"For sure, Miss Vi." He gave me a little smirk; this was a game we often played. "Let me ask Jake if he's got a sec."

Less than a minute later, I entered Jake's office and closed the door behind me.

He lifted both eyebrows in interest, a sparkle in his blue-gray gaze. "Good morning."

"Morning." I double checked the glass remained opaque, even if he hadn't reached out for the switch. With a smile of my own, I left my purse on his desk and sat on his lap. "Let's talk business."

"Mmph." He welcomed me with arms that went around me in an instant, and eyes that trailed down my body. "I could get used to this."

"Never get used to it. It should feel like a blessing each time."

Jake was a large enough man that he needed an office chair to match. His size also meant that his thighs held me with no evident strain.

He cocked his head. "I've heard you say that kind of thing to other guys before. I don't like to think of your boyfriends of yore, but I sure am glad I get words like that directed at me now."

I smiled and gave him a quick kiss on the lips, on his high cheek. "Boyfriends? Are you my boyfriend now?"

"Oh, well." He returned the small kisses, and dropped a few on my lips, my face, the curve of my jaw. "If you like the sound of it."

He kept leaving small kisses on my skin as I talked. The implicit question sat out of balance on the pit of my stomach, but I let him show me attention as I teased my feelings apart.
