Covering the bed was a patchwork quilt done in shades of blue. The curtains were a plain, light blue.
“I would guess that blue is your favorite color?”
He chuckled. “You’d be right. Mother made us each a quilt in our favorite color.” He walked over and slid his arms around her waist. “I promised you a proper kiss.”
“I was beginning to think you forgot.” She wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Forget to kiss someone as pretty as you and who I just happen to be married to? I don’t think so.” He lowered his head until his lips met hers. He kissed her softly, slowly, taking his time. While he kissed her, his hands roamed down her body to her buttocks, and he pressed her closer.
He touched his tongue to the seam of her lips.
She gasped.
He smiled and plunged in, tasting her.
Lottie pulled back, her eyes wide, and looked at him. “Brodie, what are you doing?”
“Kissing you. Haven’t you ever been kissed?”
“No.” She shook her head. “Not like that.”
“Lottie try it. I’ll go slow.”
She squinted and her lips formed a pout. “You want to put your tongue in my mouth?”
“Yes, darlin’. I want to taste you. I want you to taste me.”
She was quiet for a moment. “Okay, I’ll try.”
“Close your eyes.”
She closed her eyes and opened her mouth wide.
Brodie had to stop himself from laughing. “Open just a little, sweetheart. Not so wide.”
“Oh.” Eyes still closed, she blushed pink.
He thought she was even prettier when she blushed. She was so naïve. How did she get to be twenty-seven without being kissed?
Lottie closed her mouth and then reopened it a bit.
Brodie kissed her and then eased his tongue into her mouth. She was a quick learner. She tentatively touched the tip of his tongue and then circled it with her tongue. He felt her smile, which was exactly the response he wanted. He twirled around her mouth, tasted her, played with her. His heart rate galloped and he made love to her with his mouth.
“We need to stop darlin’ while I still can.”
“While you can?”
“I’ll explain it later. Let’s go downstairs and get something to eat, and then I intend to show you the barn. Come on.” He took her hand and led her from the room. “Let’s go.”

In the kitchen, each woman took a washcloth and cleansed her face and hands before sitting down to dinner. Agatha had set basins on the counter for this purpose. Lottie could have kissed her.
“Thank you so much, Agatha. You can’t imagine how much better this makes us feel.”
“Oh, but I can. I’ve taken that stage to Phoenix a couple of times and always needed a day or two to recover.”
The women sat at the table next to their new husbands.
