“Point Clear.”
Hex did some quick calculations.“So about another half hour.”
“If that’s where he’s going. There’s a decent chance he may stop along the way.If he stops somewhere in public, that would be the best place to confront him, if we’re looking to avoid violence. If we’re looking to cause it, I’d say follow him all the way to his place. There are likely fewer eyes there, but in those neighborhoods, I’d bet at least half the homes have cameras. It’s not insurmountable, but it would help if I have some lead time.I can try to hack in and stop them rather than have to go in and wipe the recordings one by one later.
“Do it.I’m not sure which we’ll do yet, but you and Mud can start on that while we stay on his ass.Make sure Wrath knows the plan.”
“Will do.I’m going to mute the phone on my end, but I’m leaving the line connected and I’ll be able to hear you if you say anything.
“Ten-four.”
Hex kept his distance, letting one then another of the men on motorcycles move around and keep an eye on Anderson. Before long they turned on to the 98 and headed south. The road was still divided, four lane, so there was no difficulty with several bikes rotating through, and at least one person keeping an eye on Anderson at all times.
Chapter Thirty
Elizabeth’sheadhurt.Shelay still and tried to remember where she was and how she’d gotten here. Her stomach churned. Was she just waking up for the day?Was it time for her morning sickness already?Something wasn’t right.
The bed moved making her realize it wasn’t her bed.Her eyes flew open. She was in the back seat of a car.How had she gotten here?Looking around, she tried to figure out why she was here and how she’d gotten here.
The car was immaculate. She didn’t see a speck of dirt and if it hadn’t been for no new car smell, she would have thought it was brand new.Maybe the rear seat had never been used?
She blinked and looked toward the front.Could she see the driver?A glance up at the rear-view mirror showed her only a reflection of the headliner.
The car swerved slightly and her stomach lurched.
“Oh god,” she muttered.
“You’re okay, Elizabeth, we’ll be there soon,” Michael’s voice came from the front seat.
“I’m going to be sick.”
“Hold on, sweetheart, it will be okay.It will all be okay soon.”His words were reassuring, but something was wrong.
She swallowed repeatedly, hoping she wouldn’t throw up, and waited. Her head throbbed. She wasn’t sure if her stomach was from the baby or from the pain.Giving her mind something to focus on helped.
It let her mind think past the issue at the moment. It took a few moments, but she remembered going out to the truck to get the ultrasound picture for Mitzie.
She didn’t know how long it had been since she’d left the house, but surely Kevin had noticed she was missing. He would find her. There was no doubt in her mind. The question was how long would it take?As the though occurred to her, she heard the rumble of a motorcycle. Was that him?
No.He wouldn’t have taken the time to go back to the clubhouse for his bike.
But it could be other Warriors. She wondered who would come, and if they were only coming because Kevin ordered them to.She closed her eyes and tried to relax as she waited. She couldn’t do anything now, so she needed to save her strength.
Chapter Thirty-One
“I’vegotHillbillyandRoadkill here. They’ve been working to come up with a plan. You’re coming up on an intersection.Take a right there.”Cypher’s voice came over the line.
Hex wanted to growl and tell him no.He didn’t want to let the car that they were almost certain contained Elle, out of his sight. But he knew he was too close to this.Hillbilly and Roadkill were good, the only thing that might have been better would be to have Cyclone in on the planning, but the Sergeant At Arms was in the group of bikes playing tag with Anderson.
“It will get me where they’re going?”he asked, fighting the need to clench his teeth and stay on Anderson’s ass.
“It will get you where they’re going and the plan is to get you there and in place before he gets there. The guys on the bikes will play with him a little, slow him down, if they need to.”
He thought about it for the space of several heartbeats then decided they were right. It might be a risk, but it was a calculated one.And it was worth the risk to be there and waiting when the shit-stain arrived.
Hex took the turn Cyclone had instructed him to, then every turn he told him to after that.
“Find an open driveway and pull in far enough to not be seen. There are no cars parked on the street,” Cypher said after giving him the address.“You’ve got maybe five minutes before they’re in danger of seeing you.”
