He raises a brow. “Don’t get snippy with me,” he teases menacingly. “He’d have no reason to lie to me, Nola.”
“They would have found the body by now, Dad. He knows something. He’s just not telling you.”
“Nola, where did you leave the body?” he asks, crossing his arms as he leans back in his seat.
“Where I killed her.”
“And where was that?”
“The side of Sylas’ house,” I tell him. “Why?”
He lets out a heavy sigh, closing his eyes. “That’s why no one has heard anything.”
“Dad, I swear I’m five seconds away from losing my shit. Tell me,please. Because what’s the point of trying to build a name for myself if no one sees my work!?”
“Honey, you left the body on Sylas’ property. Sylas. One of the leaders of the Brotherhood. What I can only assume was that one of your guys found the body. And because they won’t want that girl's death to be linked to them in any way, they most likely disposed of the body themselves.”
Realization settles over me. “Ooooohhhh.” I grimace. “Fuck. I didn't even think about that.”
“They have keys to one of the morgues across town. We have a deal that they’re allowed to use it, if I’m unavailable to help. They most likely didn’t want me or anyone else to know about it, because it wasn’t planned by them. They’re probably not very happy about it either. You wanted them to know about the Butterfly Killer, now they know. And if I know anything about those three, they’re going to want to find out who it is. So, be careful because this could all be over before you want it to be.”
“Damn,” I hiss, shaking my head. “Stupid, stupid, stupid.” I pace the floor, hitting myself in the head with the heel of my hand.
“Stop it.” He grabs my wrists. “You’re not stupid. You just need to think before you act. What did you learn from this?”
I chew on my lip for a moment before answering. “Not to leave the body where the Brotherhood can find it. To move it to another location where someone else will.”
“There we go. That's better. Next time, take the girl away. Or leave your calling card somewhere else.”
“Got it.” I nod. “I won’t make that mistake again.”
“That's my girl.” He grins with a proud smile. “You’re growing up so fast. I’m so proud of you.”
“Thanks, Dad.” I wrap my arms around him, giving him a squeeze.
“Now, I gotta go to work. Be good. Stop worrying so much about this one. At least they know about her, so it wasn’t all for nothing.”
“She deserved it.” I shrug. “Even if I don’t get recognition for her death, it needed to happen anyway.”
After Dad leaves, I quickly make myself something else to eat. Once I’m done, I head upstairs to finish getting ready before I have to leave for school.
“You know, Skittles, I wish you could talk. Then maybe you could have warned me that leaving the body on their property probably wasn’t the best thing to do,” I tell him, brushing out my hair. He cocks his head to the side, perched on his little branch stand I made him. “Have you found out anything interesting? I swear you’ve just been off doing your own thing these days. How am I going to know what's going on if you’re not following them?” He lets out a caw, flapping his wings.
“Rude,” I gape at him. “I would do it myself, but they’ve been busy. I can’t get inside their company buildings, or any building to do with the Brotherhood. No way I’m risking getting caught. And I’m not going to have Dad bail me out of everything. I can’t put his partnership with them at risk.”
He makes a few more noises, and I roll my eyes. “Well, at least I have the cameras in their rooms now. Not sure what good that will do, seeing how they’re hardly ever home.”
I did, however, get some good footage over the past few days—mostly of them sleeping, but ugh, they are so cute when they’re dead to the world.
It’s like their hard masks fall and the softer side of them comes out when they are unconscious. I found out Sylas sleeps naked and moves a lot in his sleep, so I got lots of full-on views of his toned, firm ass and thick cock.
Wesley snores. Not loud and obnoxiously, but these cute, adorable little snores.
And Jasper sleepwalks. Kind of? There's no actual walking involved, but I have looked back on footage to find him just sitting up in his bed, staring at nothing, sometimes for ten minutes at a time.
Not sure what’s up with that, but he looks stressed, maybe worried? I wouldn’t blame him. He puts a lot of pressure on himself to make sure everything in his life runs smoothly.
A niggle of guilt sweeps over me at the fact that I’m not doing anything to help that.
