Jogging around to the other side, I helped her out still carrying her instead of letting her walk. There was a nurse at the door waiting for us. Dr. Bloom must’ve really fucked with mywife to have her staff stick around. The door was opened, and we were ushered to the back to her office.

Entering, Dr. Bloom stood from her desk and greeted us with, “Oh, he’s concerned, I like that. Place her on the table for me and tell me what seems to be the problem. You called in a panic.”

I followed her orders and didn’t move an inch from Clover’s side. I ain’t let that hand go, either. My wife was in pain due to my seed so until she was relieved of it, a nigga was gon’ be present every step of the way.

For the first time in weeks, I witnessed Clover break behind this pregnancy. I was used to her being emotional from lil’ shit not going her way or a nigga doing something to hurt her lil’ feelings, never behind her being in pain. Tears streamed down her face as she calmly voiced, “The baby is hurting me, Dr. Bloom.”

“Okay, let’s take a look and see why the nugget has you in distress. Calm down for me and lay back. We’re right here girly. We got you,” she reassured her.

Clover nodded slowly, as I helped her slide back more so she could relax. Dr. Bloom washed her hands before pulling out the utensils she needed. The cold gel that was extracted on my wife’s stomach caused her to jump. Dr. Bloom apologized as she moved the gel around. Once her brows dipped, I knew something was wrong.

“Why you making all them faces? What you see?” I questioned without hesitation.

“Uhm, I think I figured out why you’re in so much pain, Mercedees,” she said with a light chuckle.

“No disrespect, Doc, but this ain’t a laughing matter,” I chimed.

“You are absolutely correct speaking that everything has doubled for you two. Dad, you are the father of fraternal twins. It seems like twin A was hogging all the spotlight. Twin B was hiding behind and is now simply ready to make their debut. They’re adjusting to the space, Mercedees. They should relax soon and give you a little break. If you want, start taking warm, not hot, baths to relieve the aching muscles. Dad, if you rub her down a little, they will calm down as well. Aww, I’m so sorry they’re putting you through this,” she expressed grabbing a hold to Clover’s hand.

“You said a whole lot just now, but did I hear you correctly when you said I was having twins?” Clover questioned.

“Yes, yes, you did. You questioned me on why you were so big and only carrying one fetus, this is the reason. There are two stretching you good. Congratulations,” Dr. Bloom voiced with a smile.

Damn. I was already struggling with one crib, now I got to struggle with two.

“Fuck that congratulations, Dr. Bloom. What the hell you mean by twins? I thought shit like that skipped generations,” Clover complained. She was pissed but also genuinely confused.

Dr. Bloom was clearly used to Clover’s attitude because she laughed it off like it wasn’t nothing. She then replied with, “That’s just a myth girly. Twins can definitely have twins and if they’re lucky triplets. Would you like to know the gender of them? They’re both in positions where we can tell.”

Clover said nothing as her tears raced down her face. She was already emotional as hell now this shit was ‘bout to get worse. I guess me taking a break from work was on the agenda until my wife gave birth to the twins. Linh was gon’ lose her shit when she found out. Speaking of parents, it was time for both of ours to have a sit down and get on the same page.

I looked down at her to see what she wanted to do. My baby was in so much distress it was written all over her face. Maybe ifshe heard the sex of the babies, it could bring a smile to her face. I held her hand and kissed it repeatedly before taking the wheel.

“Yeah, Doc. What we working with?” I chimed.

She pushed on Clover’s belly, tapped a few times on the keyboard, moved to the other side and repeated the same steps. When she was done, she had another smile on her face as the ultrasounds were printed. Turning the monitor toward us so we could get a good look at the screen, there were two frozen images.

“Well, Twin A is a baby girl, and Twin B is a baby boy. Congratulations again you two. You’ve got the best of both worlds.” She handed over the ultrasounds that highlighted each twin gender. “And here I was thinking Mercedees was the only sensitive one.”

“What you mean?” I questioned with dipped brows.

Dr. Bloom rolled behind her and snatched up two Kleenex before extending them in my direction. “You’re crying, Arion. Fatherhood is just getting started.”

I touched my face and sure enough them thangs was racing down it. It was my turn to laugh shit off ‘cause this was the first time I ever been knocked off my square. Being married was cool but seeing my babies was catching me by surprise. I had to snapback and get my shit together. Me and Clover both crying wasn’t gon’ suffice.

“What we doing for the pain right now though? She crying and shit,” I said wiping my wife’s tears.

“This is where you take the wheel. Cater to Mama and give her everything she needs to relax. A little Tylenol won’t hurt. If that still doesn’t work, I’ll meet you guys at the emergency room for scans. Deal?” she inquired. Her focus was now on Clover.

My wife nodded and answered with, “Deal.”

“Dad, she needs you now more than ever. Don’t hesitate to call if you get nervous and stuck on what to do. She has mynumber so use it if necessary. Mercedees, try and let this man have you and these babies. I don’t want your blood pressure rising or the babies being in distress. Go home, and relax, alright?”

“Alright,” Clover whispered.

“Dad, she’s all yours. Oh, Mercedees, now that we know you’re having twins, full term is more than likely off the table. We’ll have to discuss delivery options over the next couple of months.” Dr. Bloom stated while wiping the gel off Clover’s stomach.

“’Preciate it, Doc. We’ll call if we need you,” I replied tending to my wife.
