I spoke first to be polite. Dima was still staring as he always did. When he didn’t speak back, I continued.
“Is she ready for me?”
“She is,” he said, throwing me the keys. “Good as new.”
“That’s perfect. Thank you.”
The thing that wouldn’t let me trust Dima was the same thing that attracted me to him. I wanted to have a conversation with him, but every word I pulled from him felt like a blessing he gave me only because he had to. I didn’t trust him, but when I was near him, I wanted to benearer.
“Is there something else?”
He looked more at the ground than he did at me when he asked. The question told me I’d hung around longer than he wanted me to. Still, I wasn’t ready to leave.
“Why are you not inside hunching on one of those freaks like everybody else?”
“Not my kind of freaks, I guess.”
“And what’s your type?”
“The type of freak that don’t even know she is one until she’s in my bed. I like to be the one to bring it out of my girl.”
Arrogance oozed out of him. The way Dima stood with those bowlegs gapped open forced a nervous chuckle out of me.
“Someone’s cocky.”
“Not cocky. I’m just confident in my abilities.”
Dima slipped his hand in his pockets, and just that small bit of movement put his print on full display. He was huge. I didn’t know if it was intentional, but the message was well received.
“Thanks for fixing my baby for me. I missed her.”
“Of course.”
I twirled the keys around my finger and walked closer to Dima. He opened the door for me to slide in, but I didn’t right away. I stood in between him and the doorway, staring him down. He broke eye contact first, and I smiled. I’d finally won something between the two of us.
“You look good, by the way. Smell even better.”
And just like that, he’d regained momentum, and I was back on defense. Although, those defenses were dwindling by the second. I tried my best to put on a brave face, but I was nervous as hell around him.
He’d given me the smallest compliment, and I was ready to hand over my dripping wet panties to him. I needed to get my horny ass out of this garage before I did something we would both regret. I slid into the Jeep, and he closed the door as soon as my feet were safely inside.
“I’ll make sure your bike gets home.”
“Thanks again.”
“Have a good day, Ms. Moore.”
“I already know D Bar gon’ be jumping tonight.” Daze, one of the prospects I’d gotten close to, spoke from the other side of the table. We were in the clubhouse, shooting pool.
“Yeah, ass gon’ be everywhere.” Mob chimed in like his old lady wasn’t sitting on his lap. She slapped the fuck out of him and stormed out of the room with him right behind her.
“That’s one simp ass nigga.” Daze laughed, making me laugh too. “Don’t bring her ass tonight.” He called out after Mob, but he was too deep in the argument he’d started with his girl.
It always baffled me how boys like Mob would have their old ladies sitting around the club all day while they fucked off. I wasn’t even attracted to the type of woman that would let me play with her like that.
This would be the first night that I’d be heading out with the whole crew. We were all going to Club D Bar, and I couldn’t wait to see what the night held. I had my eyes open for the next clue, but it had also been a while since I’d gotten out the house.
I’d made the job, and seeing what was next for my career, my whole life. I rarely had time to turn up. Tonight, I could just chill with the men who would be my real homeboys if we weren’t on different sides of the law.
