The amber gaze I would know anywhere. Belonging to the calm, collected vampire who has supported all of my requests for help and has never let me down.
Who is now looking at me with something akin to horror etched on his face.
Beside him, I spot Fabian. The mage who spent the past month looking at me without recognition. From the look on his face now, he knows exactly who I am.WhatI am.
He looks shocked. Frightened.
Whether that fear isforme orofme, I’m not sure.
And lastly, the gaze of the pale-haired ice queen. The witch whose frozen mask of impassion has finally cracked.
My mother.
She looks furious. And disgusted. Two expressions that I’m not unfamiliar with. It’s just been a long time since I’ve seen them up close like this.
Sometimes secrets dissolve when they’re brought into the light. Their power turns to dust.
Other times, they damn you. They’re an anchor around your ankle, tugging you back into the dark.
I think I can guess which way things are going to go, now that my secrets are out in the open.
