She walks over to me with a smile on her face. Her hair is cut short and slicked back, but it’s her—Evie, my twin sister.
“She’s alive.” I sob, and Eduardo holds me up.
He looks over and shakes his head. “You were always one for dramatics, Evie.”
“Good to see you too, future brother-in-law.” She hugs Eduardo and then grabs on to me.
“Sis, I’ve missed you so much.” She hugs me, and we both cry. I am wracked with sobs, but it sounds odd because I am also laughing. I suppose these are tears of happiness. I swear, sometimes I don’t understand myself. Eduardo walks over to Jameson, and he is staring at Evie.
“Close your mouth, James. You’re drooling on the floor. It’s not a good look.”
I watch the exchange. He looks at me and goes to say something but stops.
“That's Emma’s twin sister, huh?” he says aloud.
“Boy, you’re a fast learner, aren’t you?” Eduardo mocks.
“Fuck off. She’s hot. I think I’m in love.” He grabs his face and rubs his hands repeatedly as if trying to wake himself from a dream. In walks Philip, and Eli groans.
“What the fuck? Is everybody coming back from the dead?” Eduardo gives him a look and shakes his head.
“Too soon?” Eli says, and Eduardo snorts.
“Yeah, a bit, but I get it. It’s ironic as fuck.” Eduardo walks over to me and my sister.
“I’m just glad that it is all over,'' Eduardo says on an exhale as he hugs me from the side and brings me into a tight embrace. I feel Evie look over at me and smile. I return it and then look over to my future husband.
“Oh, Eduardo, I have a feeling that this is just the beginning,” I say, remembering the words Adrian said to me not so long ago.
“Fuck, I was hoping you wouldn’t say that.” Eduardo runs a hand through his hair. Evie looks over at me, winking.
“That was one sweet chokehold release that you got out of, if I do say so myself, Emma.” Her eyes go wide, as do mine.
“You saw that?”
Evie nods and laughs. “Fucking epic, girlie.”
“So what now, Evie?” She looks over at us and then grabs the back of her neck.
“We have a lot to talk about.”
Emma snorts. “That's an understatement. I mean, what happens n-o-w?” Evie stares at me with a look that promises towreak havoc. It’s the look she would give me when we knew we would get into trouble. She takes one of her black-gloved hands and extends it to me in an invitation.
“Well, Emma, now that you are free, tell me who you wanna be.”
