Their six-month old son was fascinated with the little girl.

Abby, who was just barely three months, wasn’t as aware of her surroundings as their little boy, and wasn’t nearly as impressed with him.

“Just be patient, buddy,” Maverick advised him with a knowing smile. “The good ones are worth the wait.

“And this is Aiden Matthews; he also works with me,” she told her husband as they walked around to mingle with their guests. “He’s the guy to call if your heart stops working.”

“Sounds like someone I definitely should know,” Maverick said with a chuckle as he shook the cardiologist’s hand.

Aiden smiled back—a rare occurrence for him since his ugly divorce a few years ago. While the salty doctor could physically fix your heart if it stopped working, apparently he wasn’t able to repair his broken one.

“Congratulations,” he offered.

Olivia was dying to ask what happened with Dakota, the hippy chick he’d met at Steven’s house on the Cape last summer. Aiden had responded with her name as his ‘plus one’ on the RSVP card, however, she’d been nowhere to be found that night.

But she knew better than to pry into Aiden’s life. He played everything close to the vest and had no problem telling people to mind their own business—usually not delicately, either.

With a smile, she closed her hand around her husband’s. She was so lucky to have found him. She wished that for her friend.

She used to think she’d spend her life as a single mom, and here she was, married to the love of her life with a beautiful baby boy.

Miracles really could happen.
