“Sure, everyone does during the week, but no one does on weekends, and how did you even know I was off the property?”

He smiled, and it sent a chill down my spine.

“A Sheriff never tells their secrets, but we need to get going. Your curfew is every day of the week, your father’s orders. And, this time, I’m taking you back to the academy. Let’s go.”

This was what I got for going to a party. Big mistake, just like everything else lately. Sometimes I couldn’t help wondering if I was the mistake.

NOVEMBER 12 – SATURDAY 10:34 PM

Myles

I watched Sheriff Morrison walk away with Ren and had a bad feeling.

“Whoever said Sacred Heart parties were boring fucking lied. That was amazing,” Axel said, and of course, the football team and all their groupies laughed.

Spinning around, I glared at the large group, who quickly fell silent. My reputation for inflicting pain wasn’t limited to Wayward. My eyes landed on Blake. He stood with his arms crossed and stared down at his sneakers.

“It was you,” I growled. “What the fuck did ya do?”

I knew it had been him. One look at his guilt-ridden face, and I knew. We’d been best friends for over a year now, and I’d seen that expression more than once.

Blake rubbed the back of his neck.

“It was an accident, man. I was talking to Lisa, and Ren was behind me. I—”

Not waiting for him to finish, I jumped at him and took him to the ground, my fists flying.

“Yer an asshole! Ya knew I fuckin’ liked her!”

“Fuck you. It was an accident! Get off me.”

Blake got a good hit in on my ribs, making me groan as we rolled around on the floor.

People scattered in all directions as we fought. My blood pounded hard, my heart harder still as the anger rode me. The hurt-filled look in her eyes as they shimmered with tears gripped my heart and squeezed it inside my chest. There was no way she was ever going to give me another chance. Her walls slammed into place right before my eyes, and it was all Blake’s fault. No, it was Liam’s for even suggesting the bet. Where the fuck was he, I would happily punch him in the face too.

Blake’s nose was bleeding, but I didn’t care and raised my fist to punch him again.

“You shouldn’t have agreed to the bet if you liked her,” Blake said, and my fist shook.

“Aye, yer right about that. I also shouldn’t have trusted ya to be me friend.”

Pushing myself up, I stomped for the door that Nash was blocking.

“Are you idiots done?”

I glared at Nash, just as angry with him and his part in all of this.

“Good, then both of you are coming with me. We need to talk,” he said.

“I don’t want to go anywhere with any of you, especially him.”

I pointed my finger at Blake.

“Does it look like I give a fuck?”

Nash crossed his arms over his chest, and my teeth audibly ground together.

“Whatever,” I said.
