“Yeah.”

She smiled wide and then laughed.

“Not even if pigs learn to fly or hell freezes over. Maybe not even during a zombie apocalypse.”

“Harsh Princess, but I know you’re lying. You’d happily fuck me with zombies walking around, missing body parts, and watching us through a window while wanting to rip the skin from our bones. It would be an ultimate fuck you.”

Her face scrunched up like she was trying to picture that scenario. She looked adorable, and I liked that she imagined fucking me.

“You have strange fantasies, Nash, like seriously, that’s fucked up.”

I had a quick comeback ready to go, but Ren’s name was bellowed like a fog horn in the foyer, and all the students froze as all eyes turned in our direction. At first, I didn’t know who screamed until I spotted her father leaving the secretaries office.

“Dad?” She sounded as confused as everyone looked.

He stomped toward her, his eyes wild like an animal, but she didn’t budge. She walked away from me, meeting the threat of her father head-on. He looked like a man pushed to the brink sitting on the edge of insanity.

“There you are. What the hell did you do,” he screamed, and Ren looked around at the growing number of people watching.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t play stupid with me.” He held up a thick pile of papers that looked like a statement of some kind from where I was standing. “You fucking maxed out your credit card! And what the hell is all this stuff? There is one thousand sweaters and pairs of underwear and socks. There’s enough soap, shampoo, and pillows to start your own store, and why the hell are there five hundred cases of baby formula and diapers?” With each word, his voice got a touch louder.

I was as fascinated as everyone else. Why did she need all those things? Crossing my arms, I watched the show. Each one of these interactions gave me a little more insight into Ren Davies and her family.

Ren snatched the papers from her father’s hand and shook them at him.

“This is why you’re here? This is what finally made you come here?”

“Two hundred-thousand dollars Ren. Of course, I’m here,” he said, and she slowly shook her head.

“You want to know why?”

“Yes, I demand to know why!”

She slammed the papers against her father’s chest, and he stepped back from the sudden blow.

“Fuck you! If you can’t figure it out for yourself, then there is nothing left to our relationship. I’m happy Mum’s dead, so she didn’t have to see the waste of space you’ve become,” Ren screamed, her face twisting with pain as her eyes filled with tears.

I knew he was going to hit her. I’d become perfectly honed in on what someone looked like before they struck. I lunged forward and grabbed Mr. Davies’ arm as he raised it. My fingers dug in hard, and I knew there would be a bruise on his skin.

“Do it, and it will be the last thing you ever do.” My whisper was as lethal as a gun, and I meant every word.

Mr. Davies shocked expression turned to me.

“Nash?”

I jerked him closer, and he suddenly didn’t look so cocky.

“I don’t care how much you suck my father’s dick or what you do for him to be in his good graces.” He winced as I squeezed harder. “If you lay one hand on Ren, for any reason, I will rip your arms from your screaming body and cook them over an open flame so you can smell your flesh burn. That way, you’ll know what you smell like in the flames of hell before you die.” I glared into his wide, terrified eyes. “Don’t test me, Davies, I can make what my father does look like childs play.”

Ren was the only other person close enough to hear what I said, and I could see her mouth fall open.

“Nash, I don’t need you protecting me,” she whispered, her lips hardly moving.

“Mr. Collier, Mr. Davies, and Ms. Davies, we will take this conversation into my office,” Dean Henry said.

I wasn’t sure when he came out or how much he saw. I wasn’t sure I even cared. The anger was burning so hot that I could picture following through on my threat for no reason other than watching him scream.
