“I took a look at your transcript before coming into the room, Ms. Davies, and you have not only a hundred percent in every single class, you also have the bonus points.”
“Damn, man, someone is beating your scores? I didn’t think that was possible,” I whispered to Theo, who crossed his arms, his face set in a scowl. Theo was competitive to the core, and if someone were even half a point ahead in a grade or a fingertip faster in the pool, he worked harder and focused more until he could beat them. The only person more decorated when it came to the pool was Nash, but no one had beaten Theo academically.
“Just because I’m smart doesn’t mean I can or should teach someone else. You’re putting their future in my hands. That is not fair.”
Mr. Willis smiled, and you just knew he was going to fuck you over. “Then let’s consider this your lesson Ms. Davies. You don’t seem to need to study calculus anyway. In fact, I’d wager you already have this semester’s work all done.” She bit her lip, and I suddenly wanted to bend her over her desk. Forget tutoring me. I would fucking tutor her in the art of my cock.
“That is beside the point,” she said, and I snickered as Theo swore under his breath. Even he wasn’t that far ahead. Double points. Someone that could annoy Willis and Theo…oh yeah, I was in love with this chick.
“No, I don’t think it is. You’re here to learn life skills, and you never know when you will need to teach someone else. It may be to instruct them on bandaging in an emergency or helping the new person at your job learn so you can move up into a new role. It is a needed skill, and since you’re so reluctant to learn, I’m more sold on it than when I first suggested it.”
“Great job, new girl,” Warren bitched as he shot to his feet, obviously annoyed with his new role as a tutor. I wanted to hit him and tell him to shut up. “Make all our lives difficult.”
“Warren, zip it and sit down before he decides to do something else to ruin our lives. Like this school doesn’t already try to suck the life out of us,” Kelly sniped and flicked her long brown curls over her shoulder.
The new girl looked around the room, and my pulse jumped as her eyes found mine, even if only for a second. Fuck.
She sat down slowly, crossing her arms and glaring daggers at Mr. Willis. I didn’t think this would be their last showdown. “Great, now that is all settled, let’s pair you up.” He began going through the pairs as I tapped my leg.
“Put me with the new girl, put me with the new girl, put me with the new girl,” I chanted under my breath.
Mr. Willis waited until each person moved before continuing. “Lastly, Silvia, you will swap with Mr. McCoy and work with Theo, and Mr. McCoy, you will be paired with Ms. Davies.”
“Shit,” Theo mumbled.
I smirked as Slivia’s face turned bright red, her smile beaming in our direction. She’d been trying to get Theo’s attention since the beginning of the school year, but that was like trying to get the attention of a rock.
A showdown with Mr. Willis, Theo annoyed, and I get to sit with the new hottie. This just turned into my mother-fucking day.
NOVEMBER 4 - THURSDAY 8:21 AM
Ren
Ivy gave me a sad look, her lips pulling down as she gathered her things and stood to move across the aisle.
“We have lunch together. Come find me in the cafeteria,” she whispered.
I nodded. What the hell kind of school was this that made the students teach against their will, and then this jerk had the nerve to make it part of my passing grade?
Was he even old enough to teach? He looked like he wasn’t much older than we were. If it weren’t for the short hairstyle, glasses, crisp button-down shirt, and khaki dress pants with a pull-over burgundy vest, I would’ve thought he was a senior. He lifted a pile of papers off his desk and walked over while the student I was assigned flopped into the seat beside me.
Mr. Willis smiled, and if he weren’t my teacher, I would’ve said he was sexy in that nerdy kind of way. What was I saying? I was the same kind of nerdy. Mr. Willis dropped the stack of papers onto the desk with a thud. I stared at them and then up into his hazel eyes.
“What is this?”
“These are Mr. Myles McCoy’s failed quizzes and tests and all his repeated attempts to pass.” My mouth fell open, and my hand went to the stack, thumbing through the two inches of paper. “Your job is to make sure he passes the class and the next quiz. Myles will also need to retake all these failed attempts before the end of the semester. He needs an eighty or higher on every single one to pass.”
“This is a joke, right? Tell me you’re joking with me,” I blurted out, and the corner of Mr. Willis's lip curved up.
“Not even a little. For each division he fails, no pun intended. Five percent will be deducted from your possible twenty-five percent.” I glared at the man claiming to be a teacher and then looked at the guy I’d just been assigned. He was smiling like he’d just won the lottery while I felt like I’d been shackled with a miscreant and a total liability to me getting the hell out of this place. My gaze flicked up and down, taking in his athletic body, and I internally groaned. Great, a typical jock. He was probably lucky if he could figure out what one plus one was.
Myles dropped down beside me with the million-dollar smile that I was sure had won him more than one heart. His dark brown hair was messy yet suited him, but it was the amber eyes that slightly intrigued me. They were the most unusual shade I’d ever seen, like chunks of amber. He could be on any sports magazine cover, but tutor him….Oh, heck no.
“Hey, beautiful,” Myles said. Reaching out, he ran a loose piece of my hair through his fingers. I slapped his hand away.
“Oh, this is not happening.” I grabbed my bag and marched for the door.
“Class is not over, Ms. Davies,” Mr. Willis called out.
