Quinn finished the song and a roar of applause filled the club.

“Wynter,” Quinn said, “I don’t ever want to be kept from your light again. You’re my present and my future. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, whether it’s a life on the road with the NFL or speaking professionally about our story in hopes of helping others. As long as you’re there, that’s where I want to be.”

I squealed as Quinn reached into the pocket of his jeans and dropped to one knee. He flipped the ring box open.

“I love you. Say you’ll take the rest of this journey by my side. Let me give you the world, Wynter. Say you’ll marry me.”

The crowd went ballistic as I nodded and held out my trembling hand for Quinn to slip the one-carat princess-cut engagement ring on my finger. Quinn turned off the mic and set it on the floor of the cage, then laid a searing kiss on me while he dipped me backward.

I giggled against his lips. He righted me, grinning.

“You’re mine, and I won’t ever let you go, Wynter Baldwin.”

I threw my arms around his neck as “Call it Love” by Felix Jaehen and Ray Dalton started to play. Quinn and I had our first dance to this song, and now our first as an engaged couple … in a cage. I was never going to forget his unique proposal.

Glancing out across the crowd, my pulse spiked. It had been a fucked-up road to find happiness, but I was in Quinn’s arms and my friends were dancing below us with the football players, laughing and having fun. At one time, I didn’t think I deserved to be loved and happy, but the first step to healing over my past had been to realize that, even though Ky had been used by a madman for evil, his actions impacted all of us, I wanted something better than to be the shooter’s sister. I wanted to be loved and valued.

My attention returned to my fiancé, and I pushed myself up on my tiptoes, kissing the man that had nearly broken me, then pieced my shattered heart back together again.
