So much need.

So much heat.

They’d had their lives turned upside down again and were having to face the past. The guilt of what they thought they’d done was gone, but now there was a void that was filling up fast with this aching need and the realization that they might have never lost each other had they known the truth right from the start.

He tried not to go beyond that thought, beyond this moment, because he shouldn’t be thinking of a possible future with Everly and Ainsley when their future was so uncertain. Noah just focused on the kiss. The way her mouth fit to his. The taste of her. And the way her body brushed against his bare chest. Everly had been the only woman to ever make him feel this way.

Only Everly.

He didn’t tell her that now. Noah knew she might not be ready to hear it. Might never be. So, he just took the kiss and made it long and deep. Of course, it caused the attraction to soar, but thankfully it didn’t rid him of common sense.

Without breaking the contact, Noah tightened his grip on her and maneuvered her into the bathroom where his phone was on the vanity. The bathroom had no windows, and since it was an interior room, it was one of the safest in the house. Just in case the killer decided to start shooting with the hopes that the bullets would make it through the walls.

Noah figured that Everly would point out that what they were doing was a Texas-sized mistake. But she didn’t. The moment he’d closed and locked the bathroom door, she deepened the kiss even more. The silky sound of pleasure told him that she wasn’t stopping.

Good. Because he didn’t want to stop, either.

There was just enough light for him to see the arousal on her face when he lowered the kisses to her neck. He remembered this, and the thrill of touching her was just as strong as it had been all those years ago. It was like coming home and Christmas all rolled into one.

He found the sensitive places on her neck. Then again, he’d had a lot of practice finding them. Before they’d made love that one time, Everly and he had made each other plenty hot with their make-out sessions, some of which had stopped just short of sex. When they’d finally “gone all the way,” it had finally given them both the release from the need.

The need that was building, building, building right now.

Noah turned her, leaning her against the edge of the vanity, anchoring her so he could slide his hand over her breasts. Again, familiar ground, and he swiped his thumb over her nipple. Judging from her quick gasp of pleasure, it had been a wise move.

Everly made some wise moves of her own. Her hand went to his chest where she touched and pressed, adding the kind of pressure that made Noah realize this foreplay wasn’t going to last nearly as long as he wanted.

He kissed her again, this one hard and hungry, which pretty much described every inch of him. Everly must have felt that hardness because she ground her center against his. That robbed him of his breath and any thought of not finishing this right now.

Noah took hold of the dress, pulling it off over her head, and he kissed the places that were now bare. It was damn good but soon it wasn’t enough. He rid her of her bra and kissed her there, too. Then, her panties. He would have gone to his knees to give her a kiss to satisfy both of them, but Everly stopped him by going after his jeans.

“Please tell me you have a condom,” she muttered. Her voice was mostly breath and had little sound, but he heard her loud and clear.

“In my wallet,” he assured her. Noah yanked that out while Everly got him unbuckled and unzipped.

But she did more than that.

She touched him, running her clever fingers the entire length of him. Noah cursed and could have sworn he saw stars. The good kind. And he was about to see a whole lot more of them.

He got off his jeans, boxers and boots. Somehow managed to get on the condom as well even though Everly didn’t make that easy for him. She tongue kissed his neck all the while pulling him closer and closer.

When Noah could take no more of the torture, he sat her on the counter, hooked her legs around him and he pushed inside her. The passion slammed through him. So strong that he had to take a moment just to catch his breath. Everly did the same, and in the pale gold light, she looked him in the eyes.

She didn’t say anything. Didn’t need to. She just started moving, beginning the strokes that would give them a whole lot of pleasure before it sated this need.

He was starved for her and slipped right into the rhythm that would draw out every bit of that pleasure. The rhythm that would put an end to this.

Noah held on to it, moving deeper, harder, faster. He kept holding on, causing Everly’s need to climb until she could take no more. Until she gave way, and he felt her body close around the hard length of him. That was his cue to finish this, to let Everly give him release.

So, Noah let go.

Chapter Fifteen

Everly wanted to stay put with her naked body pressed to Noah’s. She wanted to just keep letting the aftermath of the pleasure wash over her. But she forced herself to remember that was a bad idea.

Noah and she had stolen these moments, but it had to stay just that. Moments. They couldn’t linger because sex was the ultimate distraction, and they needed to stay diligent.

Even though she could still hear the storm raging outside, that didn’t mean the killer wasn’t trying to sneak his way past the reserve deputies and into the house. Of course, the alarms would sound when and if that happened, but it was best that Noah and she not be standing around naked if this turned into a showdown.
