“Why not?”
“I just started this job, for one.”
Sasha waves me off. “I know Janet. I’ll buy another piece from her to soothe the sting.”
I throw her question back to her. “Would you be happy living in Dixon? It’s a tiny town.”
“Honey, I’m old and I know what I want. I’ve done the big city. I told you, I want that mountain air.”
“I can see you fitting in nicely in Dixon.”
“Everything is what you make it, dear.” Sasha extends a bangled wrist to me. “So, what do you say? Want to go into business with me?”
I clasp her warm hand in mine, butterflies dancing in my stomach.
“Holy shit. Are we really going to do this?”
Sasha is beaming. “You bet your ass we are. Now, I think this calls for a celebration worth more than coffee. How about some champagne?”
My smile matches hers. “Let’s do it.”
Because this woman who I’ve known for less than twenty-four hours is going to give me everything I want. A way back to Dixon, doing what I love, and hopefully back into the arms of the man I love.
My own blue-haired fairy godmother.
ChapterTwenty-Seven
MASON
“Are you going to be okay with Gramps tonight?” I set Mr. Dino down next to Willow on the couch. With heaps of coloring books around her, I know she’ll be content. For the first time since Ivy left, she’s finally doing better. I don’t want to leave her, but I don’t want tonotbe there for Nash on his big night.
Musicians Take Dixon.
Nash has been working hard on this for months. I want to be there to support him.
“I’ll be fine.” She ignores me, coloring the dinosaur. Ever since she got her new stuffed animal at the fair, it’s all she’s wanted to have around.
Gramps pats me on the back. “Willow will be okay. I’ve taken care of my fair share of kids.”
I scrub a hand down my face. Ever since Ivy left, I’ve been a mess. Both of us. Willow’s finally stopped crying that she’s gone, but every morning I wake up with an ache in my chest, and I don’t know if it’ll ever go away.
At least now I’m not tiptoeing around my sister, blaming her. Because Ivy did exactly what she said she was going to do.
She left.
“Sorry. I worry.”
“You worry too much. Now go. Enjoy Peter and Nash’s big night.”
I give Gramps a quick hug and drop a kiss on Willow’s head. “I love you, Willow.”
“Love you, Daddy,” she sighs.
Fuck. I hate how sad she’s been since Ivy left.
Ivy didn’t just leave me. She left Willow too.
That’s the worst part. Willow loved her just as much as I did.
