Pretty damn good.

MASON
“Daddy, how bad will the storm be?”
“Thunder and lightning. Some wind. Lots of rain.”
It’s all anyone in town can focus on right now. If it’s anything like they say it is, it’s going to be bad. They even let school out early today so buses wouldn’t be on the road in the storm. I know Willow is scared, and I want to downplay it for her as much as I can.
“It won’t blow over my fort, will it?”
“Your fort will be just fine. You and Daisy can sleep in there. Maybe I’ll let you stay up late and watch extra movies.”
Excitement grows, her mind now forgetting the storm. “Can I eat ice cream too?”
“What about popcorn?”
“Yes. Daisy loves popcorn too.”
Of course she does. If Willow loves it, so does Daisy.
“Remember she can’t have people food.”
“Popcorn isn’t people food.”
“Oh yeah?” I get down on her level, giving her my best stern dad face. She giggles at it.
“Gramps said squirrels like popcorn. So it’s not people food.”
“You shouldn’t listen to Gramps so much.” Ruffling her hair, I go into the kitchen to start making lunch.
My phone vibrates from its spot on the counter.
Peter
Need some help closing down the bar. Can you help?
Fuck. The last thing I want to do is leave Willow when she’s so scared, but I know Peter wouldn’t ask if he didn’t need the help.
Let me see if Gem can watch Willow
Peter
I owe you
Can you watch Willow for a few hours?
Gemma
Sure. Bring her over. Is she scared?
Willow is currently sittingon the couch, reading Daisy a book.
