“Me. I had more splash.” Willow is adamant.

“How would you know? You didn’t see it.” I swim over to the two of them.

Mason groans. “Can we call it a tie?”

“You have to pick a winner!” Willow and I shout at the same time, causing us both to start laughing.

“I’m getting my sandwich. I don’t want to be in the middle of you two.” I don’t miss the smile on his face as he gets out of the water.

“What a chicken,” I tell him.

“Yeah, you’re a chicken, Dad.”

“Are you two going to gang up on me all vacation?”

“Yes,” we both tell him again.

“Ivy. Will you help me take a picture?” Willow follows Mason out of the water. They exchange a look, but Mason goes back to digging in his bag for the lunch we packed.

“Of course.”

It’s warmer out of the water. The sun breaks through, heating my skin.

It really is the perfect day.

“I’m ready, Ivy.”

I turn, but what I see is the last thing I expect.

Mason is down on one knee, Willow standing beside him with her hands clasped under her chin.

“What’s going on?” I blurt out.

Way to go, Ivy.

It’s pretty obvious what’s going on.

Mason is down on one knee.

“I hope it’s fairly clear what I’m going to do.”

“Oh my God.”

“Mind coming over here?” Mason cocks an eyebrow at me.

I step closer, grabbing his hand that he holds out for me.

“Ivy Connors. You are absolutely the love of my life. I never thought I would get so lucky to love someone like you.”

Tears gather in my eyes.

“The love you show me and Willow is something I’ll never take for granted. I want days like this. I want to travel with you. I want to spend our days in Dixon. At the bar. As long as I get to spend every single day of my life with you, I’ll be a happy, happy man.”

My vision blurs. Willow is bouncing with excitement next to him.

“Ivy Connors. Will you marry me?”

The box he pops open holds an antique ring. The oval-cut diamond sits on a thin white gold band. “Oh my God, it’s beautiful.”
