“Do you remember what you said at dinner the night before Emily’s party?”
“Um, that was ten years ago, baby. Can you give me a hint?”
“You blurted out that you wanted a big family and everyone looked at you like you were from outer space or something.”
“Yeah, I did do that. I remember and look at us now. Three kids later.”
“Well, you see, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”
“Alright, which one of them do you want to sell to the circus?”
I slap his hand and scoff at his joke, “I wasn’t talking about subtraction. I was talking about addition.”
“And you don’t even teach math,” he can’t hold it any longer and laughs. “I’m sorry, baby. What do you want to tell me?”
“I suspect you’ve already figured that out, daddy.” I smile.
“I love you more than anything in this world,” he says and places his hand on my belly.
“Molly’s so little. I didn’t know how you would feel about having two so close together.”
“It’s perfect. Emily and I were too far apart. The closer they are, the better their childhoods will be. They’ll always have someone to play with, and they won’t be lonely like I was. You are a wonderful mother to my children and I definitely love helping you make them,” he assures me.
“I love you more than anything, too and I couldn’t ask for a better family than the one that you’ve made with me.”
“Good, so let’s go upstairs and finish this celebration before midnight comes and my birthday is over.” He takes my hand and places it on his erection.
I’m amazed that after all of these years, the thought of making love to me still arouses him this way, but I often find myself fantasizing about him, too. In ten years, our desire hasn’t faded and our love has grown stronger. I get up from the sofa and he lifts me into his arms and carries me up the stairs just as he did on our wedding night ten years ago.
The End.
