“You’ll forgive me if I don’t believe that. I didn’t even get it the day of our ‘honeymoon,’ Try again.” He let out a breath as I took a drink.

“I told you I didn’t want to be there.”

“I didn’t want to be here on my own, but we don’t always get what we want.” I got down off the stool and took my drink into the office. I know I wasn’t being fair to him but being alone had made me grumpy. After doing a stocktake on the sales, we have had for the store this week, I placed a few orders to restock some of the most popular items that we needed. I messaged Belle to see if she needed me to order anything for the bookshop before turning my attention to the email from the realtor for possible places to check out. They still weren’t what I was looking for. We wanted to go a little smaller, yet he was giving me huge places like the one we were currently living in. I emailed him back and told him to downsize more and come back to us. Cleaning out my emails while I was there, I found one that I wasn’t expecting.

Savannah,

I know we have never spoken before, but I found your email address on your website and hope you don’t mind me contacting you. I own the shop next door to you. I am not getting any younger and feel that it’s time to retire. As the owner of the shop next to mine, I wanted to see if you were interested in buying it. I have attached my offer and the details of my agent if you wanted to contact them. If there are any issues, please feel free to come and see me. I know I haven’t always been the most approachable person and I apologize for that.

Thank you,

Hunter Rodgers

I opened the attachment and checked out the offer. He had also attached an appraisal that he had done on the building, and it matched the one we recently had done on the shop, so his offer seemed fair. I chewed on my lip. It was my dream to buy that place to make more space for me, especially now that Belle and the bookstore were growing. We could knock down the adjacent wall and put her in there and open a wall between us and the coffee shop on the other side. It would give them more traffic if we put some tables in for customers to sit and read. It sounded too good to be true.

“Cash!” He came into the room with a raised brow.

“Sug, everything okay?”

“Come read this.” I pushed back and put the email on the screen. He let out a whistle.

“Do it. It’s what you have always wanted. It wasn’t that long ago that we had the conversation.”

“You didn’t have a word with him, did you?”

“No, why would I?”

“It just seems really weird that this is coming up now.”

“I love you, but your business is just that. Yours. If you wanted anyone to talk to him about giving up that place, you would have gone and spoken to him by now.”

“I feel bad. I didn’t even know his first name. I know everyone in the coffee shop by name and he is my next-door neighbor.”

“Sug, you are in the coffee shop almost daily. Of course, you know them by now. You have had no reason to go into his shop.” I nodded. He had a point.

“Can we afford to do it though?”

“Yes, especially after we sell this place. We will make back what you spend there. If you want to do it, the only thing stopping you, is you. At least make an offer. You will kick yourself if you don’t.”

“Alright, I will give them a call on Monday.” He nodded and leaned in pressing his lips to my head. Before he could move away, I grabbed his shirt and pulled him back to me. Standing up, I pressed my lips against his. “I didn’t get one of those earlier.”

“I tend to give you space with you are moody, you know this.” I made a face.

“Don’t push it mister. I am still not happy that you had to work today but I know you didn’t have a choice.”

“I have a feeling that things will start to calm down now at work.” He pressed his lips against mine again. I wasn’t sure what he meant by that, but something told me that I would find out soon enough. Leaving my computer, I picked up my drink and took hold of Cash’s hand. Leading him out of the office and into the media room. Sitting down, he sat down beside me. Leaning into his side, I rested my head on his shoulder. Reaching for the remote, I couldn’t help but smile that he had put on the next movie in the Marvel order, just waiting for me to join him. This is exactly how I wanted to spend the day with my husband. Now I just prayed for no more interruptions for the rest of the weekend at least.

Chapter Twenty Two

Neil

Getting the phone call from Cash was the last thing I expect the day after his wedding. When he said that I needed to meet them, and that they had Dale, I got my security guards and we left. I ensured that Belle was safe, making Beau swear on his life to keep her out of harm’s way until we got back. I had no idea what was waiting for me, but I wasn’t about to play with her life.

We arrived at the police station that Dale was being held at and Felix pulled me aside.

“His lawyer has arrived, and we have nothing we can hold him on. He is denying even knowing Holly so pinning her murder on him is going to be next to impossible. He will just worm his way out of it. It would also mean bringing him to Harrison and we definitely don’t want that.”

“No, we don’t. So, what is the plan?”
