Chapter Four

Savannah

Seeing Cash, for however brief it may have been, put my mind at ease. Since I messaged him and had heard nothing back, my mind had been going over the scenarios of what could have possibly happened. I never would have thought it was because he was being questioned after Holly was attacked. Surely, we couldn’t have been the only ones on the list of people that Holly had pissed off. Even when she was seeing Austin, she would try and make a game of hitting on other girls’ boyfriends. It would have been a long list. Karma was taking her sweet ass time getting to that one!

After lunchtime though, I got a text from Cash telling me that he was home, and he would see me later. He was gonna get some sleep because he was starting to feel like crap after so little. My poor man. I wanted to do something for him but with him being home, it would make it harder to surprise him. Belle came into the office as I sat at my desk, she raised a brow.

“What’s wrong? You have that look on your face like you are up to something.”

“I want to do something for Cash and normally my go-to thing would be cooking for him, but he is home so if I start, he will smell it and wake up. I want to surprise him though.”

“So, come over to mine and Beau’s. You can grab the ingredients on your way over because we really don’t have much and take it home to him.”

“Beau won’t be sleeping?”

“No, he’ll be at work. He is on nights this week.” I nodded.

“Okay deal, as long as you are good with the company?”

“Beats going home to an empty house.”

“How did you manage when you were on your own?” She shrugged.

“I didn’t know any different. I never lived with Dale and never had housemates, so I had been on my own since I left home. Now that I live with someone, it feels weird. I guess it also still doesn’t feel like my house. It’s still a lot of Beau there no matter how much he keeps urging me to change things.” Biting my tongue, I kept quiet. I wasn’t sure how she would feel if she’d known that it was Bianca who decorated that house, not Beau. When she left, he got rid of the photos and stuff, but it was still a lot of her in that house.

“Maybe it’s time that his house gets a makeover.”

“Well now that sounds dangerous. What are you scheming?”

“Nothing! Much…” She gave me a look. “I’m just saying, your house and his house are completely different styles. You had a more neutral and warm tone to yours. His house feels cold and uninviting, mainly because he was never there except to sleep. Let’s look into it a little while we are cooking, and you can decide if it’s something you want to talk to Beau about or just leave for the time being.” Belle was quiet while she thought about it. She finally nodded.

“Okay, let’s look. I agree with the cold feeling. I don’t want him to think that I don’t like his house. I love it, I do, but it is ultimately his house.”

“We will look for subtle things to change. If that doesn’t work, then we will go big and he can deal with it.” She laughed.

“Sounds like a plan! I’m gonna go finish up what I was doing, and then we can go.”

“No rush babe.” She disappeared leaving me to my thoughts. The truth was I had been looking at ideas for the baby’s room and had come across a few things that Belle might like. I just couldn’t come out and tell her why I was searching for room ideas. Having said that, we had a meeting with an agent coming up so it is plausible I would be searching for ideas for myself. I would have to wait until things settled down for Cash at work. I didn’t want him dealing with that and this. He didn’t need the stress and neither did I.

About an hour later, we were both done and out of there. I stopped by the supermarket to pick up a few things to make dinner and Cash’s favorite dessert. He didn’t have much of a sweet tooth, unlike me, but he was a sucker for my double chocolate brownies. I added big chunks of chocolate to them to make them taste so much better. Loading up with everything I needed, I went to the checkout and paid for them. Returning to my car, I loaded the stuff in the back and headed over to Beau and Belle’s place.

Taking the stuff inside, we went to work. Belle was cooking dinner for the three of us and I was working on dessert for us.

“Have you spoken to Cash since he left the shop earlier?”

“No, he has been caught up with stuff at work and only texted to tell me that he was going home and would probably be asleep when I got home. I would be really surprised if he doesn’t sleep all night and doesn’t wake up until tomorrow morning.”

“What time did you get to sleep?”

“We got home late afternoon; I fell asleep on the couch, then we were awake watching TV. He would have gotten four, maybe five hours sleep.”

“The boys were up early on Sunday morning as well.”

“Yeah so he would definitely need the sleep which is why I didn’t want to wake him when I got home. If he does it on his own, then that’s one thing but I won’t be the reason he doesn’t get sleep.”

“Did you ever worry about waking him when you left for work after he had been on night shift?”

“No, he would stay awake until after I left, then go to sleep.”
