“No because if I say the word murdered, then he knows that he has nothing that he left behind. No loose strings. If he thinks she is still alive, then we know where is going if he is released from here. He won’t make it into Harrison though.”

“So, why didn’t you just let him get close?”

“I need to see what he knows. He’ll have spies working for him.”

“Won’t they have already told him that she is dead?”

“If they did, there would be no reason for him to be back in Georgia.”

“Unless Neil being here has raised suspicion.”

“Then let’s bring him in. See what he can get out of him.”

Chapter Twenty One

Savannah

Waking up to an empty bed, the morning after our wedding had me worried until I spoke to Cash. I hated that he had been pulled away, but I understood. The sooner they locked Dale up, the better for everyone. Cash called again about lunchtime to tell me that they were waiting on Neil to get there because they were getting nowhere. The asshole wasn’t talking but I guess he was good at worming his way out of shit. He had done it with Belle’s friend and however many others. He would have the most expensive lawyer working for him. After getting off the phone with Cash, I heard my doorbell. Checking the peephole and seeing that it was Belle, I unlocked the door and opened it for her. She looked nervous. Closing the door after she walked through it, I turned to look at her.

“Belle, what brings you round?”

“I’m sorry to drop by unannounced, I figured with Cash out of town it would be okay…”

“Even if Cash was in the house, it would be fine. Are you okay?” She shook her head.

“No, I don’t like him this close. I am on edge.”

“They have him in custody though, he isn’t going anywhere.”

“For now, wait until they can’t pin something on him, and they have to let him go.” I shrugged.

“Then he gets hunted. You don’t think your dad is just going to let him walk away, again, do you? He can make him disappear while all their hands stay clean. Come to think of it, I am pretty sure Felix could too.”

“I just want this over, Vannah, once and for all.”

“It will be, Belle, you have to trust them. They know what they are doing. He won’t be wasting oxygen for too much longer, I promise you.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“I trust my husband. He protects family, and that is exactly what you are. Let’s just try and relax. I was just about to make some lunch and watch a movie, do you want to join me?”

“Sure, if you don’t mind?”

“Not at all, I could use the company.” Walking into the kitchen, I started pulling out ingredients to make something. Deciding on sandwiches, they would be quick and easy, Belle came to sit at the counter.

“Was everything okay with you and Christina last night? You two seemed to be having a pretty serious conversation.” I let out a breath.

“Yeah, she was just telling me something she found out and asked me what I thought she should do.” We were quiet while we got lunch ready before getting drinks and moving to the front room. “Is there anything you feel like watching?”

“No, I’m good with whatever.” I nodded, sitting my lunch down on the table and moved to our DVD case, looking through the titles. I wanted to reach for the next in line of Marvel movies that we were up to but that was something that Cash and I had been doing together. I didn’t want to go on without him. Taking a movie out at random, I put it in the DVD player. Sitting down on the couch, I crossed my legs under me and reached over for my plate.

A few hours later, after Belle had left, I was sitting in my home office working through some paperwork for the shop. Feeling my eyes getting tired, I got up from my chair and picked up my cup. Walking into the kitchen, I moved to the fridge and took out my jug of sweet tea and poured myself a glass. Putting it back in the fridge, I heard the front door. Looking at the clock, not realizing how late it was, I figured Cash was home. I took a seat at the counter as I waited for Cash to come into the kitchen. He came in and just leant against the doorframe, his arms folded across his chest.

“So how much trouble am I in?”

“Depends on how you plan on making it up to me.”

“Breakfast in bed for the rest of your life.”
