“Are you ready for this, Sug?” Leaning over, I pressed my lips against his.
“I have never been more ready for anything in my life.” With another kiss, we pulled back and got out of the car. I grabbed my dress while he grabbed his suit and the bags. Walking up the front porch, the door opened as we got to it. Ma and Pa pulled us both into a hug.
“Is everyone here?”
“Yep! You both ready to tell them what’s really going on?”
“Not the first bombshell I have dropped this week. I am just glad that this one is a happier one.” We followed them inside.
“Have they asked about the backyard?”
“No, they haven’t seen it yet. I have kept them in the family room.” I nodded and took Cash’s hand as he sat our bags by the door. Ma took my dress and disappeared into the guest room. Walking into the family room, everyone turned and looked at us.
“Oh good! You are here! Maybe now we can find out why we aren’t allowed to leave the family room!”
“Austin, I swear to God if you don’t have some patience, you won’t be finding anything out!” I couldn’t help but laugh as he was scolded when Ma came back into the room.
“Well, we may have brought you all here under false pretenses.”
“What, so no food?” That earned Austin a smack to the head and I tried not to laugh.
“Yes, there will be food, but you think you are all here to celebrate Cash’s promotion when that is only part of it.”
“Vannah and I have talked about it and we have decided that, with Ma and Pa’s help, tonight is going to be our wedding.”
“What?!” All three of them said at once.
“In our defense, we planned this before we knew what was really going on but decided to just go ahead with it. Made no sense to cancel it.”
“About time! You have only been engaged a million years!” Cash rolled his eyes but couldn’t help laughing at Beau’s words.
“You can’t rush these things!”
‘The backyard is all set up for it which is why you haven’t been allowed out there. We were trying to keep it a surprise.”
“You did well! We didn’t suspect a thing!” I looked over at Austin and smirked.
“Not bad for someone who can’t keep a secret.” He stuck his tongue out and laughed.
“Yeah, yeah. Laugh it up.” They moved over to congratulate us before we all moved out to the backyard to see the final product.
“Is it everything you wanted?” Cash moved in behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist, pressing his lips to my neck. Tilting my head to the side, I closed my eyes.
“Everything and more. Ma does amazing work.”
“She didn’t want to disappoint us.”
“She could never. I would have been happy with takeout and the courthouse.”
“I know that, and she knows that, but I am the first of her kids to get married. She wanted something more than that.”
“I love her for that. I love both your parents for everything they have done.” Before Cash could speak, I felt someone taking my hand.
“Okay, that’s enough, you two. There will be plenty of time for that once the ceremony is done but let’s get you both ready while there is still some daylight left.” I quickly kissed Cash before Belle and Christina dragged me away. Leading me to the bedroom where Ma had put my dress earlier, we closed the door behind us so I could get ready. It wasn’t much, my makeup was minimal so it wouldn’t take me long.
A little while later, there was a knock on the bedroom door. Belle, after setting down the makeup brush as she fixed the final touches to my face, went to open it.
“Hey, Belle, sorry to interrupt but do you think I could have a minute with Vannah please?”
