“Is he going to be around for the weekend?”
“I think so. Not too sure how long he is staying. I rang Ma though and gave her the heads-up.”
“Oooo parents meeting parents. This is serious.” Cash chuckled.
“Let’s not point that out to Belle, she is probably nervous enough meeting them.”
“Oh, she is scared out of her mind about it. Just hopefully once they find out what is happening, she might relax.” Cash sat up to look at me.
“I need to ask you something…”
“Uh oh, that doesn’t sound good. What’s up?”
“On the subject of inviting people to the wedding, did you want to reach out to your aunt and uncle.” I let out a breath. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about them. They were the only family I had left but I hadn’t seen them in a while. It would have been a year or so since we had them over.
“Would I be a bad person if I said no?”
“Not at all, Sug.”
“I love them, and they will always be my family, they took me in when I needed it the most, but I see more of your parents then I do mine.”
“You don’t have to explain yourself to me. I understand it. I just wanted to ask to see where your head was at.”
“I appreciate that.” Moving toward him, I cuddled into his side.
“So, did you decide what you feel like for dinner?”
“I feel like burgers.”
“Do you want homemade burgers, or do you want Bacon Brothers burgers?”
“Can you be bothered going to get Bacon Brothers?”
“Sug, for you, I would travel to the moon if you needed me to.” I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but smile at how cheesy he was. It was one of the many things I loved about him.
“Smooth, babe, real smooth.” He laughed and stood up. Leaning down and pressing his lips against mine.
“You want your usual?”
“Yes please.” He kissed me quickly a few more times before straightening back up.
“I’ll be back soon. If you need anything else while I’m out, send me a text.” I nodded and blew him a kiss before he disappeared out the door. Reaching back over, I picked up my book and kept on reading until he got back.
The talk about Aunt Shelby and Uncle Mark though had me remembering the last time I had seen them. Things were awkward between us because they had told me that my parents had reached out to them.
Past Savannah
Sitting at the dinner table, I kept watching them. They would look at each other before looking down at the plate in front of them. We hadn’t really said a lot since they walked in the door, so I knew deep down, that something was up. I looked over to Cash, thankful that he was sitting beside me.
“Okay, guys, what is it? You two have barely said five words since you walked in the door and now you keep looking at each other.”
“It’s nothing, Savvy. Eat your dinner, don’t want it getting cold.” That was my aunt’s standard line when she was hiding something. My uncle was always silent. Had been since the day they’d picked me up from hell.
“Nah uh. I’m not buying that! I would fall for that as a teenager, it doesn’t work this time.”
“Just tell her, Shell, she will find out sooner or later.” She gave him a look before sitting her knife and fork down. I saw Cash set his cutlery down and felt his hand on my thigh, giving it a small squeeze.
“Okay, you are really freaking me out right now.”
