Chapter Twelve
Savannah
After I got some work done, I called Ma to make sure she didn’t need any help with the weekend. She convinced me that she had everything under control, but I still felt bad that she was doing it all. She said Cash was going over to help set up the chairs and stuff that were being borrowed and that I just needed myself, my dress, and the music so I spent the rest of the afternoon working on a playlist of mine and Cash’s favorite songs as well as some other classics. To say I was excited was a bit of an understatement. We were actually doing this. No longer just talking about it. This was one of the best surprises Cash has ever done.
Looking up at the clock on the kitchen wall, I saw that it was almost six. Leaving my laptop, I moved around the counter and started getting the ingredients for dinner. As I looked down at the ingredients though, I suddenly didn’t feel like pasta anymore. Normally, I would be excited for my spaghetti carbonara but not tonight. Reaching over, I picked up my phone and unlocked it. Going to my last dialed list, I tapped my thumb on Cash’s name and held it to my ear as I put all the ingredients back in the fridge.
“Sug, you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just trying to decide what to do for dinner so seeing if there was anything you felt like.”
“Nothing comes to mind. You know me, I’m easy though.”
“I know that but that doesn’t help me decide.” I went back to sit down on the stool at the counter.
“Okay, so what did you have planned?”
“Pasta but I don’t feel like it now. I just took it out to start making my sauce and it wasn’t appealing to me.”
“Do you feel like cooking at all? Do you want me to stop and get takeout?”
“I’m okay cooking, I just didn’t get anything else to cook.”
“Do you want me to stop at the store and grab ingredients for something? I am leaving here soon and need to run over to Belle and Beau’s really quick before I come home but if you want me to grab something on my way, let me know what you decide. If you want me to stop at the store, text me a list of what I need to get. Or we can pick when I get home.”
“Okay, babe. I love you.”
“I love you too, Sug. See you soon.” Ending the call, I sat my phone back down on the counter and started going through what options we had. I started listing all the possibilities but again, nothing was appealing to me. Going back to work on the playlist, maybe I would feel like something in a little bit. Worst case, when Cash got home, we would order pizza or something.
Finishing up with the playlist, I closed my laptop and returned it to the office to charge. I picked up my phone, filling up my glass of juice on my way through to sit down on the couch. Picking up the book I was reading last night before Cash and I went to bed, I opened it to my place. It was a book that Belle had told me to read by a new author that she had found. Making myself comfy, I tried to focus my mind on one thing, rather than the millions of things running through it at the moment.
It must have worked because the next thing I knew, Cash was home.
“Sug?” I heard the sound of keys dropping on the table by the door.
“Media room!” Putting my bookmark in, I closed my book and sat it down beside me. Looking up as he walked into the room, I tipped my head back when Cash bent down to press his lips against mine. Resting my hand against his cheek, I smiled. “Welcome home.”
“Nowhere else I’d rather be.” He pressed his lips against mine again and moved to lay down on the couch with me with his head in my lap. “How are you feeling.”
“I’m fine. Just trying to relax. How was your day?”
“It was okay.”
“Any breaks with the case?”
“We think we have a lead. Felix and I are gonna check it out tomorrow.”
“What did you have to run over to Belle and Beau’s for?”
“Her father surprised her with a visit, so I was dropping him over there.”
“Aww she would have loved that.”
“She did, it will give her some company while Beau is at work over the next couple of nights.”
“I worry about her there all by herself. Maybe we needed to invite her over here for dinner and movies or something.”
“That sounds like a good plan, Sug, or I can leave you girls to it and go help Austin with his shop.”
