“Yeah, I’m fine. Just sunk in, we are gonna be parents.”

“You good with that?”

“I am, just took a minute.” Laughing, Savannah tucked herself into my side.

“When we get home, we can talk more about it, without any prying ears.” Pressing my lips against her head, I nodded.

“Sounds good, Sug. We also need to talk about adding another ring to your hand.”

“Let’s just go to the courthouse. I don’t want anything big and over the top. We’ll find a day that Beau, Austin, and Belle can all make it. Your parents even.”

“Think about it and if that is still what you want in a month’s time, then we will do it. If you want something bigger then we can do that too.”

“Okay, baby, I will think about it.”

Reaching the campground, everyone looked up at us. I could see them relax.

“Good to see you both back and in one piece.”

“I’m lucky she loves me.” I moved over to where I had left my camp chair and set it up. Reclaiming my beer, I dragged my chair to where Vannah was and sat down. Taking her hand, I linked my fingers with hers. Now, it was time to enjoy the weekend. Stress free, balls intact.

Getting home, I got the truck unpacked and put away in the garage while Vannah took a nap on the couch. I went in and looked in the freezer for something to have for dinner, but not seeing anything that wouldn’t require lots of prep work, I decided to order pizza so we could just chill on the couch for the night. I ordered our favorites before going to join her on the couch. Putting onCriminal Minds, I turned the volume down low so that it didn’t wake her. I was glad now that she had more help at the shop so she didn’t stress herself out while she was there and could take it easy. I would never suggest she hire more people though because she would tell me where to go. It was her shop and I respected that. She didn’t tell me how to do my job so I would never do the same to her.

Since she told me she was pregnant, and once it finally sunk in, I started thinking about which room in the house would be the nursery. We would need to start clearing it out so that she could decide what she wanted to do with it. Everything in this house was handpicked by her with the exception of my office downstairs and the garage, they were both my areas, because I really just didn’t care that much. I had a couch, a TV, and a bed that I shared with her. I was good. We didn’t really need three guest rooms though, so losing one wasn’t such a big deal. I would probably go with the one closest to our room while the other two that were further away stayed as guests. Hell, we could turn all three of them into other rooms. Other than Belle and her dad recently, we didn’t really have a need for them. Vannah hadn’t seen her parents since she left Athens and mine lived in town, so they didn’t tend to stay the night. Beau and Austin were the same. If we went out drinking or had a BBQ here, they would get a taxi back to their place. Thinking about it now, I don’t honestly know why we went with a house the size we did.

Looking over at her as she laid sleeping on the couch, I couldn’t help but think back to when I first met her. We were at a friend’s party and she had just moved here from Athens to live with her aunt and uncle, so they brought her with them. She was a few years below me at school, so it wasn’t like we had classes together, but when I met her at that party, boy did she make her first impression one to remember.

We were young and stupid, having a few drinks when she walked in. I couldn’t take my eyes off her, neither could most of the guys there. Some had their girlfriends sitting right beside them. Her friend got her a drink, and as luck would have it, her friend was the girlfriend of my best friend, so they came over and sat with us. As the night went on, Vannah and I went somewhere quieter and kept talking. It was about five in the morning before we decided to call it a night. For weeks, I couldn’t get her out of my head, but I had exams that I needed to focus on if I wanted to get into university. My dream had always been to become a detective. I would be doing a criminal justice and law enforcement degree, taking courses in criminal law, criminology, and forensic science to start with. I needed to stay at the top of my class if I wanted to do that. The last thing I needed was a distraction.

Savannah was not to be ignored though. She came crashing into my life and was determined to stay there. She was the same age as Beau and shared a few of the same classes. They became friends and started hanging out at our house together after school. One day, he was out with our parents and Austin when she came around. One look at her and you could tell that she had been crying. I had a major test the next day, but I didn’t care about studying when I saw her. I just wanted to be there for her. From then on, we were inseparable. She pushed me when I needed to study and helped me rather than being the distraction that I was expecting. That was when I knew that, no matter what, this woman was the one for me. I would be nothing without her. Now, I just needed to remind her of the man she fell in love with.

Chapter Two

Savannah

Waking up on the couch, I looked at the TV and saw that Cash was watchingCriminal Minds.I swear, if he didn’t love Harrison so much, he would have gone to Quantico and become a profiler. He had questioned if that was the path he wanted to go down but then decided against it. Shifting on the couch and looking up at him, he looked deep in thought.

“Something on your mind?” Cash turned and looked at me.

“Just thinking about how we met.”

“The night of the party?” He nodded and I sat up. “That was a good night. I’m not sure I had spoken to anyone as much as I did with you that night. Everyone else got a few words out of me and that was it. Even my aunt and uncle struggled.”

“I feel special, then.”

“Oh, you are.” I grinned and moved to cuddle into his side. “It was a good thing Jessica was dating Michael or we were coming to talk to you anyway.” He chuckled, wrapping his arm around me.

“Even if you didn’t talk to me that night, you were with my brother enough.”

“Everyone at school thought we were dating.”

“It crossed my mind that you would get bored of me not acting and go for him. I would have deserved it.”

“You would have but no, you were worth the wait. Even when you are being a bonehead, I am still glad I picked you.” He pressed his lips to my head, and I closed my eyes. There was nothing better than being in his arms. I missed him when he was gone but I would never make him pick between me and his job. “When are you gonna tell your ma and pa about your promotion?”

“In a day or so. I wanted you to be the first to know but that didn’t really go according to plan.”
