“Really. I filled out the intake form last night.”

“You did?”

“And he emailed me back.”

Really?

I switch to video call, and Sadie appears slouched back on her couch. “Wow, so quickly? What did it say?”

“I haven’t opened it yet.”

“Kylo gets a bunch of applications every week and is selective about who he takes at the moment. I’d jump on it fast before you lose your chance.”

The screen goes to pause mode, and I wait by the first stall for her to return, rechecking the time. “Sadie, are you still there?” I ask, and she reappears.

“I was reading the email.”

“And?”

“He wants me to come this weekend.”

My brows raise. “Oh, really? Kylo said he wasn’t taking weekly clients for a while. He must be intrigued.”

“Is that a good thing?”

“Anything with him is a good thing. Trust me. You’re not going to regret this.”

Sadie slowly nods a few times, which is not convincing, but I hope she’ll give the experience more thought. “Okay.”

“Good. I’m going to pick you up at six after my last customer. This news calls for some new sexy outfits.”

She gives me a small smile. “Sure. I’ll be ready.”

I hate seeing her down, and I want to treat her tonight, get her out of her apartment. Even if she’d rather be home watching her comfort movies than going to the mall.

“Listen, I know this time of year is hard for you—all the bad experiences can be a lot to handle, but don’t let the past stop you from healing. Take this opportunity and allow Kylo to work his magic. He’s the next best thing to a therapist.”

Her nose scrunches, and I kick myself, remembering the mess between her and Declan. “Best not compare the two.”

“Right. Yeah. I’ll call you later.”

“Bye.”

I frown—there’s only so much I can do to help ease her anxiety and heal from the despair. She lost both parents and fell victim to a narcissist during her hardest times. However, I couldn’t be more proud of her strength to leave him, and I’m happy she’s back in Oregon.

Taking a quick shower, I get dressed in black skinny jeans that hug my curves, a white short sleeve t-shirt swooping low in the front, heels, and a tan blazer. A casual outfit and every layer necessary for this customer’s request.

Creating a simple makeup look with Vivid’s signature scarlet red painted on my lips, I leave the dressing room to the main floor, which is a full house. Gin whistles when she sees me, and I sigh, tempted to ignore her call, though I walk to the end of the bar where she’s standing behind fixing an order.

“I need you on the floor between sessions tonight.”

My stomach churns. “What? Why?”

“Look around, Evie. Three Vixens didn’t show up today. We need more girls here.”

“How is that my problem? I’m not stretched and haven’t worked the pole in forever.”

Gin huffs a laugh. “Everly, please, don’t fight me today. I’m already getting my ass kicked behind the bar. Now, do what you gotta do to make it work.”
