There’s no mistaking the anger in his tone, trying so hard to hold back.

“What do you want, Kylo?” she asks, backing away from him.

“Hey, let’s give them a minute,” Lennox whispers in my ear, and I nod, walking toward the stairs to my bedroom.

He’s not far behind me as we reach the top, glancing at the white silks hanging from the vaulted ceiling. “You practice at home?” he asks, and I nod again, opening my bedroom door, making sure it stays open as I gesture for him to enter first.

I may have plenty of space in my home, but I live a minimal life—not much furniture or decor, no family photos lining my walls like at Sadie’s apartment. Just me, my silks, and the essentials. Lennox strolls around, stopping at the practically empty bookshelf, and he picks up an old picture frame. The only photo I have is of me, my cousins, Gram, and Dad on my twelfth birthday, my first summer spent in Cali since moving.

He smiles, glancing at me. “Your family in San Francisco?”

I nod because it seems to be the only thing I can do right now. I’m surprised he remembers. Placing it back on the shelf, Lennox faces me, and I sit on the bed. We’re supposed to be leaving for Vegas in a few hours, but now it doesn’t feel right to go. Enzo’s already there, and I’d hate to disappoint him, though I’m sure he’ll understand. Of all places to be stranded in, let it be Sin City.

Lennox walks toward me, and I thoroughly take him in for the first time since he arrived. Neat short beard to his black thermal and sweatpants hugging his body just right, down to his white kicks. He knows he looks good as I slowly make my way up his body, meeting his amused smirk and quirked brow.

“You like what you see?” he asks, lifting the hem of his shirt just enough to see part of his V-cut above the waistband.

I lean back on my hands, fixating while chewing my bottom lip, rubbing my thighs together as I shake my head, then squeak a laugh when Lennox lunges for me, straddling my hips, pinning my arms above my head.

“You’ve wounded me,” he mumbles into my neck, bringing my hand to his firm chest.

His heart’s beating fast, and I smile. “I think you’ll survive.”

He smirks, intertwining our fingers, his gaze flicking to my lips as I lick them. “I hope I do—”

“Evie?” Sadie calls, and we both look at the doorway as footsteps come upstairs.

Lennox straightens up, adjusting himself before gesturing for me to take his hand, and I do, standing beside him. Sadie walks into my room a second later and freezes.

“Oh, sorry, I didn’t know you were both up here. Hope I’m not interrupting anything….”

“You didn’t,” I say, walking toward her, and I don’t miss the hurt in Lennox’s eyes as I look back before he quickly recovers.

Kylo enters the room a moment later, placing his arm around her waist, his bloody shirt draped over his shoulder, and he nods for Lennox to meet him outside. He follows, not before gliding his fingers across my thigh, below the curve of my cheek, sending a shiver down my spine.

Fuck me.

I need a minute, but Sadie comes closer. She’s happier, which makes me smile. “Is everything okay now?” I ask, sitting along the edge of the mattress to cross my legs.

“We are.”

“Sadie, I’m sorry—”

She shakes her head. “While I’d prefer Kylo didn’t hurt me as part of his plan to set up Leanna, I understand now why he came to his conclusion, and nobody knew Declan was at my apartment. Hopefully, that’s the last time I ever see him again, and I want to be a part of the new solution to get rid of Leanna for good too.”

“Okay, what are we thinking?”

She shakes her head again. “I got this, Evie. You worry about your time in Vegas. Relax, and take time for yourself. Have fun…” Peeking at the doorway where Lennox stands with Kylo, she whispers, “Lots and lots of fun.”

Two days with Lennox in Sin City—the unknown of what could happen while we’re there scares me. How much I want to run the other way, far away, but he catches me with one glance from those beautiful eyes, and I nod.

SIXTEEN

RULE NUMBER ONE, ALREADY BROKEN

My leg bounces in the back seat of our ride, waiting for Evie to come outside. We have plenty of time to get to the airport, but I can’t stop the nerves from hitting me. Evie’s throwing mixed signals, and I don’t know in which direction to lead—keep pursuing, or fall back? I don’t like option two. I don’t want option two.

I want her.
