“Fifteen minutes ago, I wanted to strangle you. What you said hurt, Evan. A lot.”

A frown forms between his eyebrows.

“I’m sorry. I—I can’t think straight where you’re concerned.”

“Well, you need to get something through your skull.”

“What?” he asks.

“You’re who I want to be with. Not Milo. Not Finn. Not Chris or anyone else who comes along. You. And when I’m with you, I’mwithyou. No one else enters my head. But if you think you have an easy excuse to act the way you did again, you’re going to need to learn that’s not okay with me.”

“I promise. Never again.” He pulls me close enough that his heart beats against mine. “I don’t want to lose you.”

“I’m not going anywhere,” I tell him and bring my lips close to his ear. “I love you too.”

The words are barely past my lips when his mouth claims mine in a kiss that curls my toes and has me clinging to him by the time he lifts his head.

“What was that?” he asks, glancing over my shoulder while he walks me back into my apartment.

“What was what?” I ask, looking behind me. All I see are the home screen of the movie and the brightly lit Christmas tree.

“Santa.” His breath tickles my ear.

“Santa, huh?” I giggle.

“Did he bring you what you wanted, princess?” He flexes his hands against my hips.

“No. He brought me something better. Something I accidentally left off my Christmas list.”

“Yeah?” The devilish smirk on his face has my insides quivering with need.

“Coal.”

“Coal?”

“After all, I’m not on Santa’s nice list.”

“You’re saying you’re naughty?”

“Why don’t you kiss me again and find out?” I challenge.

Turns out we’re both on Santa’s naughty list this year. And there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
