When I open the door, ready to scold both of them for ignoring me, I’m stunned to find Jaxon’s room transformed. All the lights are off so I can see all of Jaxon’s glow-in-the-dark stars that seem to adorn every flat surface, including a small pathway that leads out to the balcony that I usually keep locked so Jaxon doesn’t try to get out when I’m not watching. As I follow the path, my heart starts pounding, my hands start shaking, and when I turn the corner and see both my men wearing matching suits, Jaxon in a red bow tie and Dane in a red dress tie, the tears form. They look so handsome, with their hair brushed to the side, hands in their pockets, and mischievous grins on their faces.

“What are you guys all dressed up for?” I ask, trying to calm my racing heart.

“It’s a surprise!” Jaxon says, pulling on Dane’s arm over and over again. “Can we do it now, Dane? Please? Please!”

Dane’s eyes go from Jaxon’s to mine and when they meet, the seriousness of this moment washes over me.

“Yes, Jaxon, we can start now.”

He lets go of Jaxon’s hand, taking mine instead and the second his fingers touch my skin my entire body responds. It’s always been this way between us, our chemistry was never an issue but right now it’s more than that. It’s a connection I never knew I would have with another person, something deeper than sexual chemistry, something more than shared interest. This is a bond I never knew I needed but one I desperately want to keep.

“Nellie Elizabeth, you have been my constant over the past year. You are every dream I ever had for myself, and I am so thankful I found you and Jaxon. You have given me the family I always wanted with Jax, and you’ve given me unconditional love, even when I don’t deserve it.”

I give him a look as he smirks, causing heat to travel directly to my core.

“You are the love of my life, Nel, and I wanted to bring you out here so we could ask you a question.” He looks down at Jaxon nodding his head once as they both get down on one knee and that’s when the tears start to fall freely.

“Mommy, will you let Dane marry you?”

I look from my son to the man I love more than anything, except Jaxon, and wonder how I became so lucky. When I look at Dane, he’s giving me a sly smile.

“I figure if he asked you, you couldn’t say no.”

I burst out laughing, the tears still streaming down my face as I look between my two boys, each one essential to my being.

“So, what do you say? Will you marry me and make me the happiest man in the world?”

“Yes,” I whisper, falling to my knees and wrapping my arms around both of them.

And to think, all of this started because of a hookup.

Best holiday hookup I have ever had.
