The beating drum of my heart pounded in my ears as I raced down the stairs knowing the lift would have wasted precious seconds. This wasn’t about honesty now if she knew: it was the about her guilt—about her not listening to the truth. She needed to know I loved every fucking moment of her fantasy.

Chapter12

Kara

The banging and the repeated sound of the buzzer on the front door wouldn’t have ceased if I hadn’t done something to make it. Fucking wine. It was the devil’s drink, especially the white stuff, and it had left my head feeling the aftershocks most of the day.

It was three pm. I should’ve been finishing my second day at work, but instead, I had got myself into a drunken state the night before, attempting to forget the aftereffects of Logan Marshall and his fantastic body. However, he had left a delicious soreness between my legs that I craved to be filled again and forgetting him was almost an impossibility.

The door banged again, and another pain shot through my head as I attempted to steady myself, taking slow movements to the door. The only person obsessed with my wellbeing at the moment, would be Claire. I hated her for causing the pain, but I couldn’t have disagreed needing to have let some steam off.

I pulled the door open and stood open-mouthed at the unrivalled beauty before me. I hadn’t expected it to be him. He came to me. Logan came searching for me.

“Kara, I know.”His voice was soft.

I gestured with my hand for him to enter, and walking past me his darkened eyes caused goosebumps to shoot along my arms before I took a breath, shut the door, and followed him in.

“Are you okay?” He trailed his eyes up my body, assessing every part of me, trying to grasp an answer of his own.

“Too much wine,” I sheepishly stated.

“Sit here, Kara.” He placed a footstool in front of me before sitting behind me on the sofa. “Let me help, whilst I tell you some home truths.” I couldn’t have controlled the winced that left my mouth if I had tried.

I did as I was told. I hadn’t the strength in me to have fight alongside the headache at the moment. I would unleash my wrath on Daniel at a later date, knowing he had given my address to Logan. It was the only way it was possible for him to be sitting in my house.

His hands went into my waved hair, and I struggled to hold the moan back as he massaged my temples, easing all that built-up tension.

He whispered against my ear. “Now, Kara, I’m going to talk. Just listen to me please?”

My nerve endings were fully alert to his presence and my thighs clenched together at the smooth rasped tone that lingered when he pronounced my name. Nothing he said was going to have me stopping the deep pressured touch of his fingers against my head. A sickly-sweet smile graced my lips, which I knew he wasn’t able to see. “I’ll listen, just don’t stop.”

His fingers continued their circular rhythm. I heard Logan clearing his throat before the tumbled words hit the air.

“Daniel told me you know about that night. It wasn’t anything to do with me. The only stupid idiotic thing I did was to lose a bet which caused me to be in the club in the first place, but if that hadn’t happened, I would never have met…you.”He placed a single, delicate kiss under my ear.

“Logan…” His name escaped as almost a whisper into the air and the thrumming beat increased in my chest, awaiting his next move.

“You’re stubborn and certainly fiery.” He turned my legs to face him, and I realised he’d stopped massaging my temples. However, the reason he had even started was long forgotten. He had awoken a new feeling.

Logan tucked a tendril of hair behind my ears and stated, “That night, you experienced your fantasies, but you ignited something within me I never knew existed. A fire. A longing. A desire. A requirement, Kara… for something that’s been missing.” As he cupped my face within his large hands, I saw every emotion he had spoken of was the full truth.

“What was missing, Logan?” My voice box shook with nerves.

“You were missing, Kara. I’m yours. I was yours the moment you fell down the stairs that night due to my mislaid attention and thank fuck it was. I was yours when we went to my house, and you left me. I was yours yesterday when you came back into my life, and I fucked you in that room at work. Kara, I want you as mine now.” He blurted the words out as if he had been holding his breath, waiting for me to challenge him, but I wouldn’t.

I couldn’t. He’d finally ripped every single one of his emotions from his soul, and I couldn’t push away the fact that he wanted me—he wanted my fucked-up ways and he still wanted me.

“I’m yours, and you’re mine.” My mouth kissed his in a sweet promise that neither of us would fight anymore—knowing that everything had finally aligned our paths as one.

It hadn’t been an easy ride, a bet that had rocked our initial meet, but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. I had the Adonis of my dreams—the man I desired—and he the woman he craved.

Logan Marshall was everything and my everything. It was the second chance we both deserved.

He took my hand and placed it in his as we stood up, and I asked if he fancied celebrating.

“Only if I can tie you to the bed this time,” he chuckled, chasing behind me up the stairs tapping my ass as we went.

“Now, now. Behave Mr Marshall.” My smirked grin showed.

“Not now. You’re mine, Miss Penner.”

I opened the door and shut it behind us.
