And I’ve kept my promises.

I’m not dead, that’s for sure. The police still like me well enough, and I don’t owe a soul on this earth any money.

I’m still in the family business, but I don’t take such an active role these days. I’m more of a figurehead, like my father was before he passed. I let my two most trusted men deal with the day-to-day shit, and I do most of the strategizing.

Do I miss it?

Sometimes.

Olivia told me I didn’t have to change, but I think a part of me wanted to be better for her. Maybe I needed someone to teach me how. I needed a reason, and now I have three of them in the form of her and our two beautiful children.

I pull her in close to me and breathe her in. She still uses the strawberry and cream things I chose for her. We’ve been all over the world, the poshest French boutiques and the finest malls in Dubai, but she still favors the same brand I picked out for her. I’m not complaining. It reminds me of the night she made every dream I ever had come true.

Olivia turns over in her sleep. “What time is it?”

“We’re due at Gram’s nursing home in an hour.”

She practically jumps off the mattress.

“It’s ten a.m.?”

We go visit at eleven every Sunday. She lives in the best nursing home money can buy, and it’s pretty amazing what that place has done for her. She has friends and a life there, and it makes me happy knowing how happy it makes Olivia.

I laugh at her, unable to help myself. “No, it’s only six-thirty. But since you’re awake, and we have plenty of time…”

My hands travel down her hips, and I pull her round ass closer so she can feel exactly what we have plenty of time for.

“You’re lucky I love you, Jack Bennett.”

I lean up on my elbow, catching her chin in my hands and pressing a kiss on her lips. “I never doubted you would, little angel.”
