Smiling, Enzo turns to me and takes my cheek. “I can see it. We’d be great parents.”
“Hell yeah we would,” I agree. “But don’t think I’m joking about the million conversations we need to have. You think I made you talk about stuff too much when we were falling in love?” I let out a slow whistle. “Oh, do we have some processing to do if we’re going to even consider kids.”
Enzo chuckles. “Kids.” He strokes my cheek. “Holy shit. Couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone but you.”
“Me, either.”
Blackbirds and Song Sparrows flit through the air above the lake, and our family's laughter rings out down the path. The future stretches out in front of us, thrilling in ways I’m only beginning to comprehend.
For now, though, we don't need to say much more. I hold Enzo’s gaze, smile, and meet him in a kiss.
“Love you,” I whisper against his lips.
“I love you.”
