Music filled the square. Children in their best outfits ran past, screaming their joy as they chased one another, and someone called out to say that all the food on the assembled banquet tables was now officially fair game, but not to touch the blackberry chocolate wedding cake, made by Noni Tula herself.

It was perfect.

“Hey,” Theodore whispered, his lips pressed against the shell of her ear. “Look over by the drink table.”

Margot craned her neck to peer over her shoulder just in time to see Kaz melting into the shadows between the trees, his strides quick and purposeful. “Where do you think he’s going?”

“Mm.” He swayed with her to the beat of the song and the chorus of excited voices around them. “My first guess is that he’s running away from the horde. Second guess is that maybe he has somewhere else he’d rather be.”

“Interesting. He was moving pretty fast, wasn’t he?” Margot turned her attention back to her husband. Melting into his arms, she gave his handsome face and healed marriage sigil an appreciative sigh. “Can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere other than here, personally.”

Theodore dimpled. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

He bent to touch their sigils together. Both of their eyes fluttered closed as they savored the bite of magic, the heat of the bonfire, the scent of the forest, and the bond that arced between them.

I love you, darling.

Margot felt his voice, the raw feeling behind it, in her marrow. I love you, Theodore.

Theodore met her gentle kiss with an aching softness of his own. A howl of approval went up around them. You ready to spend forever with me?

Yes, she answered, I won’t accept anything less.
