I got to work unbuttoning the millions of buttons at the back of her dress. “Because it’s your wedding and you’re supposed to be nervous. It was a beautiful ceremony. Magical. And the pictures are going to be stunning.”

“I can’t wait to see them.”

“They’ll be perfect,” I assured her.

“Did you see the cake?” she asked. “I didn’t get a chance to check it out.”

“It’s perfect,” I told her. “You don’t have to worry about anything. I checked with the event staff. The food is just as you ordered. No shortages. I sampled some of the apps and they were just as good as they were when you picked them.”

“Thank you so much for making sure this all went as I dreamed,” she said. “I could not have done this without you.”

“I’m honored you let me be a part of your special day.”

“So, a little birdie told me you went MIA for a bit while Tony and I were getting our pictures done,” she teased.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I said with a laugh.

“You little tramp,” she said. “It’s the dress. I told you that dress was gorgeous. The way he was looking at you throughout the ceremony was just a little uncomfortable.”

“You saw that?” I asked.

“Girl, everyone saw it,” she said. “It was making everyone a little hot under the collar.”

I groaned and shook my head. “How embarrassing.”

“Don’t be. I don’t know if you guys are really trying to sell this story, but it’s working. No one would believe you aren’t together. You guys act like you’ve been together forever. And the sparks that fly whenever you’re together is no joke. Combustible. You two should not be around any dry tinder. You’ll burn the place down.”

“Very funny,” I said with an eye roll. “Let’s get you taped up.”

“Make sure you do the back too,” she said. “I am not flashing ass-crack. No plumber butt for me.”

I laughed and did as she asked. Once we had her taped, dressed, and let her hair down in the style we’d preplanned, I touched up her makeup before doing my own.

“Ready?” I asked her.

“Let’s party!”

I escorted her back to the reception. We slipped in just as the first course was being served. “Everything okay?” I asked Ryan.

“Yep. I stayed right here. Thankfully, no one talked to me about dresses or anything else.”

“You’re so handsome,” I said with my chin in my hand.

His face lit up. “Where’d that come from?”

I shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s true. I just want to make sure you know it’s true. I feel so lucky to be sitting here beside you.”

“You’re going to make me blush,” he said with a sheepish smile.

“How in the world have you flown under the radar for so long?” I asked. “I mean, why haven’t you been snatched up?”

“Because I’m a dork,” he said.

“You are not,” I told him. “Definitely not.”

“So, Tony and I were talking,” he said. The way he said it told me there was a story coming.

“I didn’t do it,” I said.
