She giggled breathlessly. “I suppose there are better times. But I’d rather you ask than not ask.”

I nuzzled my nose against her hair. “Any chance I could convince you to give it to me over some food? There’s a diner just up the road and I’m sure it’s open twenty-four-seven.”

She lifted her head. “Actually, my apartment’s only a few minutes that way. I make a mean beef stew with soda bread.”

I blinked. “You know, I thought I clocked an accent.”

She smiled as her legs unfurled from my body. “My family’s back in Ireland.”

“Then why are you here?”

She snickered. “I think this conversation might best be had over food instead of with, well, your you-know-what in my you-know-what.”

I pecked her lips softly. “I mean, I don’t have any issues with it, but I always aim to make my lady comfortable.”

I helped her down onto her feet as she barked with laughter. “So, I’m your lady now, huh?”

I shrugged as I tucked myself back into my pants. “At least for tonight, you are.”

And when her eyes met my own, I watched something flash behind them.

Something akin to happiness.

“I guess I can handle that for a night or two.”

I chuckled. “Already inviting me to stay the night, huh?”

She ran her fingers through her disheveled hair. “How else are we going to get a round two?”

And in that moment, I’d never met a more perfect woman in all my fucking life.

Brigid

While I was surprised that I had the balls to invite him back to my place, I certainly didn’t question it. It wasn’t very often that my gut tugged me in a man’s direction, but this was one of those rare circumstances. I wasn’t ready to be done with him just yet. I wanted a little more time with him.

A little more time beneath him, rather.

And while one-night stands had never been my thing, I felt freer than I had in a really long time. After walking back into the bar and letting my best friend know that I had plans back at my place, she squealed with delight and bombarded me with a few “I told you so’s”.

Then, I hopped onto the back of Puck’s bike.

You vowed to never do this again, Brigid. What are you doing?

I ignored the voice in my head as Puck handed me a helmet. I slid it over my massive hair, tucking it in at the sides and around the back before he helped me to sling my leg over his behemoth vehicle. He settled into his leather seat in front of me and I immediately wrapped my arms around his waist, wanting nothing more than to cling to him like this for the rest of the night.

“You ever been on one of these before?” he asked.

The microphone in my ear startled me and I jumped a bit. “Woo! I mean, uh, no. Not really, at least.”

He chuckled. “Not really?”

“I mean, I was on one once. But I was, like, twelve years old and my uncle walked the bike with me on it.”

“Ah, the first taste of freedom.”

I snuggled against his back. “Got any advice for me?”

And when he cranked his bike up and revved the engine, I grew lustful for him again.

I’d never witnessed—or felt—anything hotter in my entire life.

“Hang on and let me know if I’m going too fast for your comfort, okay?” Puck asked.

I nodded. “Trust me, I have no issues with speaking my mind.”

“Good.”

We took off down the road and even though we were only going twenty miles an hour, it felt like we were flying. I gave him directions on how to get back to my apartment and the ride was over much too soon. I wondered if he’d take me on another ride in the morning.

Because I had every intention of asking him to stay the night.

“Welcome home,” he said as he parked his bike.

I pulled my helmet off my head. “Yep, this is my place! It’s pretty new, too. These are new builds, so the building’s got that ‘new place’ scent.”

He chuckled. “I wouldn’t know anything about that, but then again I haven't been home in a while.”

I paused. “Why not?”

He paused, too, and it made me wonder what the hell I’d just gotten myself into. “It’s sort of complicated?”

“Like, ‘I have an angry woman back home’ complicated?”

He scoffed as he took the helmet out of my hands. “No. I’m many things, but I’m not a cheat. Never.”

And I believed him. “Okay, so is home not a good place for you right now? Because you’re more than welcome to stay the night here if you’d like.”

He grinned. “And here I thought I was smooth with my own pick-up lines.”

I slid off the back of his bike. “Hey, I’ve got a bit of game myself. But you take some time to consider my offer, yeah?”
