“Exactly. Dangerous.”
Lyric releases a disgusted laugh. “This is embarrassing.”
Temple turns toward her. “The taco debate?”
“You.”
Briggs’s smile disappears.
Temple lowers the s’more. “What did I do?”
“You’ve known these men for five minutes and already act like you belong in the middle of everything.”
Rider leans forward. “I invited her.”
“I’m aware,” Lyric says. “You bring one desperate fan into the group, and suddenly she thinks every man wearing a hockey jersey is interested.”
Temple’s cheeks turn red, but she doesn’t fold into the blanket or look away. “None of them are wearing jerseys.”
I bark out a laugh and Lyric’s mouth tightens.
“I’m also not desperate,” Temple continues. “I’m hungry.”
Briggs laughs before catching the anger in Lyric’s face.
“Don’t speak to her like that,” he says.
“Oh, please. She has spent the entire night staring at you.”
Temple looks at Briggs. “You kept stealing my food. I needed visual confirmation of your location.”
“You touched his face.”
“He had chocolate in his beard.”
“He has hands.”
“They were holding my stolen s’more.”
Briggs’s mouth twitches, but Lyric pushes out of her chair.
“I need another drink.”
He starts to rise on instinct. “I’ll get it.”
“I can walk thirty feet without supervision.”
Briggs stops halfway upright.
“I didn’t say you couldn’t.”
“You were already following me.”
“Because you said you wanted a drink.”
“I don’t need you attached to me every second of the night.”
The smile leaves his face completely. “Okay.”
